I love these threads. I highly doubt all this will be done by 2006 but I can dream can't I. My next mods are going to be exterior because I'm pushing to win a show in August.

-JWT ECU/Or Zemulator if it comes out for the 4th gen.
-Homemade Grounding System
-Re-cover seat w/ Tan leather.
-Paint back of seat body color.
-Going boosted w/ a 3.125 pulley on a V2 kit.
-Hydro-electric power steering.

-Warpspeed SFC's(Stage 1&2)
-Lower Tie Bar
-A tasteful aftermarket steering wheel.
-Kumho MX tires in 235/45/17
-Extrude Honed USIM.

well, if the steering part numbers are the same for 97 and 99 what changes Nissan did to give the 99 much firmer and tighter steering feel?
Nick.
[QUOTE=VeeQueue]Yes I've been saying this all along. A bunch of people are going to throw away money based on misinformation. If you're a 97-98 SE owner don't replace the rack for a "99 SE" rack unless your rack is really fcked because you are swapping out the SAME RACK.
Part #s.
95-96 SE + 95-99 GXE/GLE MAXIMAS 49001-40U05
97-99 SE: 49001-0L701

I guess you dont believe me. THE PART NUMBERS ARE THE SAME. Its not just the steering rack. They did not change anything to the 99 SE steering or suspension system vs a 97/98 SE, because the change was already made on the 97 SE Maximas.
If you drove a 99 and it felt tighter then there are many variables to consider. It could be due to the fact that its newer. Are the balljoints (lca balljoint, tie rod end) tight? Are the bushings undamaged? What kind of tires is the other car running? Is the Alignment correct? Tires and especially alignment can cause steering feel to feel nice and tight or very loose. My steering is very tight but recently my clutch and axles were replaced so I haven't had the chance for an alignment and the toe's way off so it feels a bit squirrely.
Just call the dealer and ask for the part # for a 97 SE rack and call another one for a 99 SE rack part #. Its going to be the part # I provided. I already compared the part #s with a Nissan parts guy I know a few years back because I was preparing for a complete suspension overhaul when I lowered my car so thats why I am 100% certain the 97, 98, 99 SE steering and suspension parts are the same.
If after calling the dealer to confirm the part #s and you still dont believe the parts are the same then I don't know what to tell you. Enjoy spending the $1,000 on the new rack.

Thank You , now do 97-99 SE have speed variable steering ? I have looked under my car and i didn't see and wires or plugs coming out of the rack, somebody here have swapped one from inffinity and that one had variable speed steering. I need to find me a 99 Maxima on stock SE rims and and from 95 and compare those two.

No.
Ok, this part I am basing off memory because I did a half-assed look into it. The variable rack were available on some 96-97 I30s equipped with traction control and those cars had a variable rack. The local Infiniti dealers here are aholes so they wont' confirm anything for me so I can be totally wrong on this one (the traction controlled cars).

i have a few ideas about this year for my max. i've taken a 2 yr hiatus. it just turned 70,000mi by the way: 1. upgrade the brake pads to axis ultimates and SS lines. 2. time for new tires again. last set was dunlop A2 (good all around tire). new lightweight 16s aren't out of the question for summer. 3. replace the trans fluid and sparks before summer; coolant before fall. 4. fix my exhaust issues. perhaps switch to the quietest setup while losing no gains. 5. if nothing else brakes (ie clutch) then a full coilover suspension tuned for the street especially since some of them are becoming proven among maxima drivers. OR i might end up selling it and trading for an STI, G35, Z33 - something more glamorous and refined while i still can. i guess i'm hitting a sort of post adolescent crisis lol. however, something inside me is still a maxima fan. my 4th gen is truly capable of holding it's own even as it turns 8yrs old. it's a factory freak. it's almost becoming the AE86 of midsize sedans. an overachiever. it's actually lighter than other cars of today. would anyone else agree? someone please encourage me to buy a new car or keep this one. i like conversation...

Lots of plan for the max in 2005 as this car is now officially my personal toy since I recently bought a 2004 Murano. I want to push this car into the 300-350 HP.
The parts I already have:
D2 Coilover
Lower Tie Bar Stage 2
Energy Suspension Bushing kit with motor mounts
ABS Front & Rear Lips & Stillen side
Carbon Fiber mirror covers & door pilars
2k2 HID with DDE
What I want for 2005
Stillen S/C and or a 50-75 shots
Big brake kit
E-manage
Wallbro fuel pump
New injectors ( not shure about 370cc or 550cc )
Z32 maf
Cattman Headers & muffler
New wheels & shoes
VB recal ( tranny swap for fall 2005 )
Russell SS hoses ( radiator and others )
Subframe connector
Custom freak paint jobs ( fall 2005 )
That's about what I can think for now but I'm shure I must have forget few things.
Cheers and happy new year to all.
