I have a problem, i can play normal, store bought CD's just fine in my car, but whenever i try to play ANY burned CD's, it will start to skip after a while, any brand, any kind, doesnt matter. I asked a friend about it, he said that some cd players actually over heat writable CD's. is this true? has anyone else had this problem?

i know that some "decks" won't play Burned CD's... for example, i had a kenwood deck (aftermarket) in my 240sx that wouldn't read them at all.... but in my 97' Bose (head unit made by Clarion?) I play them all the time and have NEVER had a problem... have you tried cleaning the laser? just a suggestion...

I have the same problem. I have a 97 Max with a Bose. And it plays burned CDs only sometimes. I have to keep turning it on and off and playing with the mode button for it to work. So I keep listening to the same CD all the time. I'm affraid of changing it. But sometimes it will just start skipping and stop playing anyways. I get a "ERR" message on the display. I would love to know how to correct this problem it drives me nuts. And yes, I have used a lense cleaner on it. Are there different kinds of CD lense cleaners? I used one thats just a brush connected to a CD.

Its not a cleaning problem, i really do think that the cd's or the cd player just over heats. Really anoying.

I wondering if this is a 98 thing. i had the same exact problem. my cd's would get hot after playing them awhile, and the cd-r's got hotter quicker. i also noticed that the longer i drove, the more susceptible my cd-player was to skipping when driving over road bumps. i went to nissan and they fixed the problem....im not sure if they replaced the whole unit or just the laser, but either way it helped. anyways, if you're outta warranty and don't wanna pay for a new one, i mite be selling my double din bose. let me know. it was only used for a short time b/c i ended up getting a double din kenwood....which i sold and now have an alpine monitor. if ur still under warranty, go get that shyt replaced.

Zumble-
i had mine replaced under the factory 36,000 mile warranty...im sure that's what it would be covered under. the 50,000 or 60,000 mile warranty our cars come with is engine i think. u may want to get another opinion but i think this is the way it is.

It is probably the CDR itself. I have had good luck with the more reflective looking types. Believe it or not, I've had best luck with Memorex extended 80 min CDR's that I use with a Plextor 8/4/32A writer.
