I've contacted my local Jap motor importer and found that the Vq30det will bolt up to a maxima trans, I've got him to send me some pics of the motor, he's bringing in his digi cam and i'll have some pics hopefully by friday, this way we'll know whether it'll need remanufactured manifolds etc, but hopefully the clearences will be simular. I'll keep ya's posted.

Sounds cool. What are the specs on the engine? Like Hp,Tq,Liters etc. Also how much does it cost to import this engine? Thanks and make sure to keep us updated.

Is that engine turbo charged or what? Thanks
BTW I am going to stick with my engine for now, though the 3.5 VQ looks tempting.

The rb25det is less powerful in standard form than VQ30det but has heaps of aftermarket accesories available to get it moving, though this motor is also more expensive than the VQ
I'll know by the end of the week whether this motor will bolt straight in or not.

Would the RB really fit? It is an I6, after all. Not many cars have an engine bay long enough for that. It's also for rwd cars, so it might not bolt up. It'll also have a dramatic effect on your performance as well, and I'm talking about added weight. The RB is an iron-block engine. It will weight a good bit more than the VQ. Just something to think about before you jump in.

agree.
the engine bay of the maxima is not big enough to accommodate the vq30det.

that engine is used in a slightly larger mid-size car in Japan - Gloria with the ATESSA 4wd system.

and since the vq35 is coming out on the Max soon (see the I35), I don't care about the det anymore.

Hey guys, at this stage I'm coming to a lot of dead ends but i'll keep persuing in finding some solid info, one thing i have come across was the VQ30DE from japan (96) was rated at 164kw where as ours are rated at 157kw don't know what the differences are but'll look into that one also, at this stage it looks like the 'MAXI' is going get a rebuild and s/c.
