Perfect example of how much light projectors throw tothe side of the road. Its very handy when you're going 70mph down the freeway worrying about deer, these ****ers light up everything. Mine do a great job on how wide they spread light, you would think mine look kinda dim compared to other cars with HIDs, but thats because the projectors I use spread the light evenly across the whole road.

Those lights look really nice. A great improvemnt.
I like the all black headlight housing, just need to do the same with the corners and the front end will blend in together better.

Projectors > All. Anyways, how much space is there behind the housing? I think it looks a bit 'empty' with only 1 projector. It would look better IMHO if we could get 2 in each.

Pretty bezel, nice illumination, colorful (but not as sharp) cutoff. Not a huge fan of blacked out headlights but a lot of people like them on the org! Congrats! Just working on the wiring harness for my E46's and they will be done!

Wow, excellent work, I know you must be happy with them.

I honnest dont like the look at all, the first shot with the light off looks clean but when you turn the lights on it looks terrible. I like how the stock orange corners are matching the clearance light but I still feel its very unattractive. I think it would look much sharper if you had kept or had the AE style for the headlights.

ok wow, I take my original comment back. With the nightshaded corners, that look freaking awesome! Amazing what a little color matching will do! VERY nice job. So clean!

Thanks for your comments. I am very happy with the way it turned out. I think the car looks more aggressive and sporty with the all black theme.

Hey meanbean, geo, blueC or anyone that has replaced their 95/96 headlights to 97-99, how do you take the black headlight housing off the 95/96 housing and put it on the 97-99?

Also, I am running into a couple connection gremlins. My wire harness connection point is my 9004 headlight connector from an old 9004 bulb which plugs right into the stock 9004 harness. My projectors come on (high and low) when I tested them with my wire harness plugged in but it is tempermental.

I know the weak link is between the 9004 bulb socket that I used and the stock 9004 socket. Inside, it's basically 3 prongs that plug into the stock socket. When I play with the angle to the wires and push hard on one side of the orange part of the 9004 socket, it comes on reliably but I can't get it to stay there when I let go or even if I tape it! Is there any way to hardwire the 9004 socket into my 9004 bulb plug which is attached to my wiring harness for my projectors?

Many thanks in advance for your ideas!

If it’s anything like the 97-99 headlight bracket then you will have 2 methods to remove the headlight bracket. The headlight bracket is held in place due to the aiming bars/screws. Each aiming bar/screw in turn is held down by 2 screws at its base. The base is also "clipped" into the headlight bracket. So, you can either decide to remove the screws or unclip the base in order to separate the headlight bracket. I could not manage to push down the clip enough to release the base so I decided to remove the screws instead.

To remove the screws, you will first have to keep turning the aiming bars/screws until the headlight is extended to its furthest point. This will allow enough clearance so that you will be able to use a Phillips screwdriver to reach and remove the 2 screws that is connecting the base of aiming bar/screw to the headlight. Keep in mind that the space is still a little tight so if your Phillips screwdriver will not fit then try just a Phillips screwdriver bit and use vise grips to hold the bit and break the screws loose. I happen to have a small ratchet screw driver that I used on PC builds so I had no problem with fitment.

They make female/male 9004 plug adapters that already have wires crimped on to it. I would recommend that you use this instead of the old bulb socket. You can then decide to solder (recommended) or crimp your wiring harness to the adapter. If you don’t want to do it this way then just cutoff your 9004 socket and solder (recommended) or crimp it directly to your wiring harness. You will not be able to go back to 9004 without using a new 9004 socket. This should not be a problem because who goes back to halogen once they get a taste of HID? Good luck to you.

You're amazing Meanbean. I will try as you advise when I have more time!

edit: One more question. I am moving to CA as we speak. Will I be able to pass the safety inspection with my projectors in or do I have to put in my old headlights?

Glad to help. I know of no one who has failed vehicle inspection due to HID projector retro in CA. If you think about it, you are only taking OEM projectors used in other cars and putting them on yours so there should not be a problem. If you manage to fail then just go to a different inspector. From what I have seen, CA vehicle inspection is usually tough on emissions related problems and not lighting. Some states only check to make sure the lights will work and the high beam indicator shows on the gauges so check CA regulations to be sure. Hope this helps.

My cue was the high beam which has that nice flat top with the sloping sides. Maybe others have them too but those are the only ones I've seen.
