Passed NJ state inspection

Had to put my orange front corners back in.

Now I think it's tint time for Max.

This thread is worthless, but I figured I'd post it anyhow.

As long as your corner blink orange, you should be cool...

Now I'm getting worried (just got clear corners).

My car passed NJ inspection in a breeze. I have clear corners but with orange bulbs. I don't think NJ is that strict except for tint.

Thats funny, your not the first to pass with clears in. Two years ago I was immediately rejected for the clears up front. I had to go home and change them to get passed the first inspector. So this year I figured I'd just change them to get passed on the first go around.

Guess it all depends on what mood the inspector is in.

If I'm not mistaken, inspection in NJ is free if you go to the state. That removes all the BS that the inspection garage uses to generate revenue. So at the same time, it would imply intergrity--the inspector has no incentive to pass or fail you, just follow the book.

Here in PA people pay between $35 and $68 for an inspection, how stupid. Sure, you pay $68 you're more likely to pass when you shoulda been failed, but then what's the sense? I'd rather have a system on the up-and-up like NJ.

PA/Philly is a lousy place in general!! But what we pay for a mansion with all the trimmings is barely a 2800 sq. ft. 4-bed in North Jersey.

In Illinois it's free as well and if you have a 96 car or newer they just check for OBD codes and the gas cap check. 95 and older get the gas cap and the tail sniffer on the rollers.

It's best to go to a private gas station if you have modded your car......yeah you have to pay, but at least you don't have to worry about stripping things off. I'd rather go that route.

Just put the stock orange sides back in and you'll pass. That's what I do for inspections.

Yikes! Maine is $18.50. If you fail you still pay, but once the problem is corrected they will reinspect for free. Any garage with a yellow state inspection sign can do them. OBD scanner check on cars 96 and newer. If you have any code you will fail. No other emissions checks on them. (not sure on 95 or earler) My old mech passed the 96 with codes, but thats just cuz I helped him a lot. I asked if he wanted to jack it up and he said, "Its a 96, what could be wrong?"

if you tint, be prepared to have to pay for inspection for hte rest of the time you have the car. also dont bother going to a private place if you have a CEL. they all now have to use OBD to inspect the car, no more **** probe in the tailpipe...

$68 for JUST inspection in PA?! Anyone who does that has got to be crazy. I know a couple Nissan dealers who give free inspections and only charge about $40-50 for emissions.

*LOL* that's how well PA has their residents trained--inspection and emissions are two different things. So the gimmick is to send something to your house free inspection with oil change. You pay $25 for the oil change, 1 penny for an inspection, and $40 for emissions. How dumb do they think people are? NJ = FREE, New York is what, went up from $14 to like $18?

The best I have been able to find is $35 for everything in PA--total rip-off.

no you will still keep your catlytic converter with the y-pipe. as long as you keep your converter, you should be fine. plus you gain more hp with the y-pipe vs. a cat back. im not too sure on the numbers, you need to search that on your own...

jersey is only free if you go to the dmv, i thought everyone got them for free if you went to the dmv. sometimes theres like an hr wait, and sometimes you just get in if your lucky. if you go to the gas stations, theyll do your inspection and emmisions for 25 bucks.

Apparently I've been brainwashed by the state lol. Never knew NJ was free, good deal 'cept for all the ppl w/tints. Thank god PA inspectors aren't supposed to enforce the tint law (whatever "law" that is..it's hella unclear, but that's another topic). Ntm. NJ'ers get raped on insurance. PA isn't all that bad for car ownership.

Or how about the corruption in CT where they actually suspended their emissions testing for a while and then started again? I asked my dad what's up with his 2003 stickers on the windshield, and he said CT no longer uses them, his sticker is old. But what do you want from a state where the governor went to jail after he promised the state the New England Patriots were moving there? Now all they got is college B-Ball!

My maxima also passed with the clear lights in the front at Lodi DMV. I paid $80 to get my IS passed with the 5% tints.
