What is my 97 worth, in your opinion?

I apologize if this is against the rules. If so lock this down!!

I have been offered $4700 by Carmax (not buying a car from there, just looking to cash out on this one) for my 1997 SE, 5 speed. It's got 95k miles, rosewood (burgandy) color. I want to know what I can get private party for it. The car is mostly loaded. It lacks ABS, but has leather, climate control, bose. It's got spanking new front tires and fairly worn rears. It's in impeccable shape with the exception of minor hail damage on the top (just small bumps here and there, no chipping), a scuff on the back, and its CD player does not work. The radio works fine but the CD player errs out.

I am 3rd owner but I have maint records back to its inception. It's a nice car. I paid only $6k for it with 77k on it 13 months ago but I got a great deal. I am just torn as to whether I should go through typical private party hassles or not! Thanks for input

If you're interested in selling and feel you got a good buy to begin with, then offer the car for what you paid for it (including any taxes) as a starting point. You have only owned the vehicle for about 18K and 13 months, so why give someone else the benefit of your good buy. Lower your price if there is no action on the car. You are not talking about the revenue differential being significant, maybe $1,000, so it may boil down to the aggravation factor in selling the car.

Yeah you're quite right. I'm going to clean it up now and put it in a few high-traffic areas and see what happens in the next couple of days. Otherwise, Carmax! I think $1000 or so is about right...
