Local Police are driving Maximas now!!

The city of Auburn just bought six 2001 Maxima GXEs. They are going to be used for unmarked detectives' cars. I'll try to get some pics of any equipment they get mounted in them ASAP.

I'd like to see what performance mods they do to the maximas. Think you will be able to find this out?

These are detective cars, not traffic units. They might have some strobes and radios, but nothing really cool.
Anyway, one of my friends is a communications supervisor for the po-po, so I can get in there and check em out up close one of these days.
This is Auburn, Alabama.

I thought popo cars had upgraded sway bars (for those tail swinging, hubcap flying turns we see on TV), and heavy duty radiator and transmission coolers (for those long idles in front of the donut shop).

Performance-wise, police cars are almost always kept stock.

For Crown Vics, Camaros, Tahoes, Suburbans, Impalas, Luminas and the old Caprices, yes. The sway bars are usually larger so that they don't have cornering issues (all of the above cars handle like crap if tossed, and the other parts are changed at the factory, because the stock ones would never hold up. Police packages are always ordered stright from the factory.

FBI special agent cars are heavily modded with some cool crap. My friend is in the Agency and I almost went into it also. They use Maximas and mod them heavily. Their cars have superchargers black out tail lights and all kinds of hidden stuff like James Bond. They also use cars they seize in drug raids like old Vette ZR1s, etc...

as far as police packages go, it's usually the suspension stuff mentioned, upgraded tires and wheels, column mounted shifters to make room for radio equipment, exhaust, upgraded electrical for the lights, siren, radio, computers etc., and the most important thing no speed limiter. here in az, they've been outfitting sheriffs and possibly phx pd patrol cars with bullet proof glass, but no maxima's as of yet.

It used to be you told a cop car by the Blue Streak radials. The tires say more than anything else, as even some Crown Vics have blackwalls and wheel covers and are not cop cars. They have beefed anti-roll, usually meatier exhaust, larger radiator and tranny cooler, heavier rear axle, maybe 5.8 litres instead of 5.0. for example there are probably only 4 vehicles that can be used in NYC for cabs, crowns, oddesseys, and caprice. I think explorer was the 4th but is too expensive. you can't arbitrarily decide Maxima is selling for 19 grand retail, it's a good deal, so lets use em. Code doesn't work that way. Why you think there is so much hanky panky going on to contract with the City of New York/NYS? How the **** would they end up using Friedrich a/c?
