Any Suggestions?
I am planning on buying a set of 2k 16" rims, but I dont know whats the best size tire for that rim. I also want to get them at a low price. Any suggestions on tire size and brand to look for. I was interested in the Khumo Ecsta (sp?) but they are horrible in the snow. I want a high performance tire with decent snow traction. I think that I want to get the Yokohama AVS db. They have a decent snow rating and still a good performing tire. What do you guys think? Thanks.

I'm really happy with my Pirelli P6000 Sport Veloce tires (225/55VR16). Not a lot of snow in the DC area but they are good for what little we get. I suggest you go to tirerack.com for reviews and comments by customers, that's how I decided on my set.

I have had good experience with the Yokohama Avids for all-around use - they surprised me in the snow, i was looking for great anti-hydroplaning, which they also have. Re- size - the stock 16" tires are 215-55 but they are a hair short - there is some speedometer error. I will get 225-55 next.

There are a lot more 225/55 to choose from. I was also wondering if it would be ok to go to a 50 series? Would that through anything off too badly? I have my heart set on the Yoko AVS db. I have read the reviews and they seem to fit my profile. As far as noise level, they are #1.

235/50x16 would be a little shorter than the stock 215/55 so you'd have a little more speedo error - but not much. On the other hand 235 is getting a little wide for 6.5" rims. I agree about the noise - the car is so gloriously quiet, it would be a shame to mess it up with noisy tires. BTW - 50 series tires will probably transmit more road noise to the chassis than 55's - all other things being equal.

That answers my question, Thanks. Although I dont think that I would go any wider than 225 anyway. My only worry about the tread life on these tires. I do drive a lot of miles and dont want to wast the money. I will probably order the AVS dbs this week. Thanks for all your help guys!
