In The Navy Now

As of 16:30 eastern time today I am officially in DEP.

My date of departure is June 1st 2006,just before my 19th birthday. So I get to celebrate in basic (yey). I even have a cool temp military I.D. I'm so excited I don't know what to do with myself. I'm-ma start getting back into shape now since I hear it helps the basic training process that much more. I got a cool job too "Engine-men" or EN. I should be going in as a E3 with my ROTC/Sea Cadet experience and all. Then after Navy Tech School if I play my cars right. I should be able to find a spot in japan. Granted I graduate high enough in my class to get first pick of the list of possible assignments. Funny thing is allot of the guys I know want to go to japan to be all JDM and buy JDM parts and blah, blah, blah. Me personally after hearing what the competition is like over-there with SICK skylines and RX-7's and what have you. Just makes me more eager to want to REP Fuel **** in Japan. From what I hear they have the same feelings towards domestics or American made cars(I guess to them would be imports) and well **** on mustang camaro..lol. So I think my dream might be able to come true. Buy a camaro/mustang (whomever I could find over-there first) build the **** out of it and beat them at their own game. Of course that months in the future but it's definitely what I want to do. Besides what's the use of buying a car if you can't bring it back ? If I go to Germany, same thing

So I'm set I guess,I'm set up for 6 years active and required to do 2 more additional years reserve. But I do get a 8k sign on bonus    . That's all going in the bank for that next car. Anyway figured I'd tell my long time buds what up ,and well, wish me luck.

Just remember to make the most of wherever you go. That is one thing I have learned being the Air Force for 9 1/2 years now. Take the good with the bad and vice versa. You will have some of the best years of your life!!!

Grads and I wish you the best. My nephew is a cook on the U.S.S. George Washington air craft carrier. If you want any information on serving in Japan PM chernmax, he was there for 12 years with the Navy. He started out as a E-1 and retired after 24 1/2 years as a Lt. Just keep you nose clean. Chernmax is down south now with the Red Cross so he might not answer you till after the 24th of the month. Tell him I sent you.

God bless, Warren

Basic is not as bad, from what I hear, than it used to be. Yes, getting up 3 hours before the sun does to go outside, do pushups, and run your butt off is not fun. It is what you make of it. There is class time along with the physical fitness requirements. When I went years ago, you are taught teamwork; if one person messes up everyone pays for it. They will teach you discipline, teamwork, and get you in shape. Week 7 is work week, most go to the galley to work but others get cake jobs around the barracks. I don't remember if it is still mandatory to get put in the gas chamber, if so forget trying to hold your breath!!! They will have you screaming in there. It is a good experience but it is what you make of it. If you have the positive attitude going in then you will be good to go. I thank you for volunteering to serve the country. If you are lucky you will get to PI and Austrailia... among other adventures there is to be had in the world. Best of luck, and most importantly have fun!!!!!

I've spend all my life getting ready for this..I get up early right now getting ready for it. I'm already working out, team work is not an issue. And I know how to handle knuckle heads as a team. Actually the Navy basic training is 80% school and 20% physical. I'm in ROTC so I'll be a foot up on alot of things anyway. I'm not looking forward to the chamber, but it's required anyway. It's all in fun !

congrats, enjoy it but try not to get TOTALLY enculturated. Remember to use your brain and think for yourself-even though that's not recommended in the service...

Good decision,

Great times are in store for you.

Working on a ship is hard but port calls make it all worth it.

good luck dude. Dont be like most seamen though, living paycheck to check. Put some money aside. Try and go to school to get your commission; thats where the $ is at. Gas chamber is nothing so dont sweat it so much. Last advice is MEPS sux so I hope you have patience cuz its gonna be a long day when your prepare to head out to BMT

I've been in the Navy for 2.5 years... don't regret it yet. Good decision.

The life on an EN is tough, but if you like fixing stuff, it's for you.

And Basic's pretty easy. Just keep thinking it's all a game. Cause it is. It's like summer camp.

Good luck man, my brother is on the USS Fitzgerald based out of Yokosuka, Japan. From what I've heard from him, Japan is a great place to serve.

Good luck Squid. I spent 15 years in the Navy Seabees. If you like working with your hands and brain, you will like your job. Like many of the others said, enjoy yourself and get the most out of it. Thank you for your service to our country. (Rendering a hand salute)

BTW, however tempting as it may be, don't get rid of the Max. I dumped off my 240SX when I joined and I really shouldn't have.
