The Valentine looks ugly and is too touchy to non-police radar and freq's in the air - IMO - I've never had an issue with my passport - well worth the $!

got lasered to death!

the new escort 9500i can tell u exactly how fast u r goin via gps. the nice thing about gps capability is that u can tag speedtraps.

now for the bad news. i hear soon there will be lidar guns that they can use while the police car is moving! yes, moving because of the gps ability.

btw: i got a ticket from lidar and the escort never went off. buy the zr3 cause there's no mercy for the little guy.

if someone has installed the zr3 on a max please let us know how. thx

"What's wrong with this picture department":
1. The police Lidar pulse comes at you, at the speed of light, and returns to the source, also at the speed of light.
2. The ZR3 senses it, sends information to its computer, also at the speed of light, the computer takes a micro second or two to determine the wave length of the Lidar and compute the shift to transmit back
3. The ZR3 transmits the shifted pulse back at the speed of light.

Only problem is the the original reflected pulse got there first, a long time ago (relatively), and you are busted. Ever wonder why the military uses laser designators to lock up targets (like $3 million tanks) to be destroyed by "smart weapons" that cost $100K? Or why the tanks don't just mount $300 ZR3 units on the tanks to protect them? Simple: They don't work, the laser has you faster than the countermeasure can respond..........

The comparison of LIDAR to the laser targeting system is like comparing apples and oranges. Other than the use of a laser their similarity ends there.

No, because the speed of light is a constant, and the signal from the Lidar will get back to its source before any countermeasure could...........making the counter measure a total waste of time (as well as money), literally. End of your physics lesson for today....................

btw: i believe in NJ there's a court ruling that lidar can only be used in clear weather n less than 1000 feet

Your logic is flawed in the previous comparison. When they use a laser to target something tank ect, they "paint" the target. They put a laser bullseye on the target and the smart weapon locates the spot and uses that to home in. The smart weapon will follow the target unless the laser target is lost for some reason. Using a system designed to simulate a laser signature would just make the smart weapons job easier. LIDAR works just like RADAR and has to send and collect information. Bouncing a single light wave off the car would be useless for speed detection. The system has to make more than one sample to calculate the distance traveled and your speed. I would agree that it would be unlikely that a system can detect LIDAR and jam it after the fact. However if the system is active and sending a distorted signal at all times it would be logical that the LIDAR unit could be confused with the mixed messages it sees.
I've never seen the system work in person so I'm not going to debate the fact that it works or not. I don't know.
I have a 8500 X50 and have been targeted with LIDAR, my eyes are what saved me not the detector. The unit should say BUSTED rather than LASER when it sees LIDAR. There is not protection with detection, they clocked a guy 50 yrds behind me and I got no indication of LASER, he got a ticket.

Just bought a V1 not long ago... Got it on Thursday, still in the BOX. I got a speeding ticket 2 weeks ago (41 on a 20). A small road I take EVERYDAY, never a cop till that day, in someones driveway for that matter. Oh well., i'm fighting the ticket and got a radar detector.

I had 8 years without a ticket, have gotten TWO in a 2 month period. Not sure what it is, but I need an extra line of defense and that is the V1. The first ticket was dropped to a non moving violation and I hope the second ticket does the SAME.

this is exactly what I'm talking about. the police is supposed to work for us, the little guy going to work everyday. why don't anybody lead the charge to repeal the speed limits in america? everybody's got their hands in our pockets. the detector industry, laser jamming industry, the radar laser gun industry, the insurance companies handing out free radar laser guns, your township, etc.

did u read in C&D how smokey's using a dozen airplanes to catch speeders? why don't they go fight some real crime?

Go ahead Asswipe, spend your money on useless electronic trinkets that will give you a false sense of security, right up to the point where your mindless *** gets busted………………………

I have a Escort 8500x50 but I'm thinking of picking up the v1 and doing a the hardwire install on the max. I think the arrows would be useful for traps on city streets where there's usually more activity from random things like security systems.

BTW, my other car is a C5 vette and it's almost immune to laser! It's true what they say that the cop needs to hit the license plate or the headlights to get a clean reading. That's how their trained to use the devices. The c5 vette in the daytime has neither! Lights down, no license plate in front (technically illegal in my state but I've never seen a vette here that puts the front plate on). There's nothing to get a reflection from.

I've been painted several times on the highway between Houston and San Antonio (lots of cops, esp nearer to SA) and no tickets. The Escort will go nuts and I hit the brakes and get down to the limit in about 3-5 seconds. No problems. I love that car.

For the Maxima, I'm thinking of getting that Veil product. Seems to have decent test results.
