safe to drive without 1 stud on front left wheel?

Well I've had an issue before and I just found out the shop that "fixed" it, didn't fix it and Im stuck with 4 studs on my front left wheel.

I just want to know if it's safe to drive around for awhile until I get another stud put on?

i'm driving with 4 studs on right now...well actually i have 5 studs but one of them is stripped so theres no lug nut....currently waiting for replacement to come in the mail....

just for clarification...do i just punch out the stud with a hammer once i take off the rotor? i never gone further than doing pads/rotors on a maxima....so i dunno much about studs...

It is possible that there is a little rust or corrosion on the `splined' section and you might have to use more than a hammer to free it. A few drops of "Liquid Wrench" (WD-40 will not work here) around the joint will help. Don't use a claw hammer (as shown in the pix) as the `claws' can shatter. This is a job for a "Ball Peen" hammer.

Rotate the stud to the topmost location and try and prevent the hub from moving. With the stud at the top there will be less stress in the tie rods and it will not tend to turn the wheel. Bash away to your heart's content.

If it doesn't want to come out, try and find some sort of very large "C" clamp and two identical pieces of steel ~¾" thick - other dimensions anywhere from 1" square up. An additional piece of ¾" or 1" steel about 2" x 5" should be used to form a bridge across the the first two pieces. You can now use the "C" clamp as a "Press" and push the stud most of the way out without fear of bashing something.

Your local auto parts store might even lend you a tool for the job. They sell the studs as they are generic and do not have to come from Nissan.

In the worst case, the hub must be pulled and then any machine shop will press out the old one and put in a new one using a hydraulic press - time about 10 minutes total.

One of mine was stripped all winter long on the front left tire. I'm still not sure if its fixed or not...I wasn't sure if it was important.
