oil

just a note on oil. 5w -30 is for all temps., 10w -30 is for above 0 degrees. for 4th gens. s/c er internal is sprayed with oil and then oil is drained back into the engine. vortech recommends staying at normal engine fill capacities, and using recommended oil viscosities. although i would think that using a tad bit more oil to compensate for the oil in the line to s/c would be reasonable.any comments.?

I always use 5W-30 year round and just recently changed to Amsoil.
When you drain your oil do you get 4 quarts or do you get more? When I change my oil I put in 4.5 quarts but usually only about 4 quarts comes out.

It can be bad-->
If the crank foams up the oil, it puts air into the oil and can create lubrication problems obviously. So yes, too much oil can be a bad thing.

traditional change
I usually take it to this mechanic that jacks up my car, lets the oil drain out --and it takes a good 10 minutes or so for all of the crap to drain out. THen he plugs it back up and puts the new oil in. There was this one time I got some aftermarket engine flush and I put it in and asked him to run it...and more disgusting oily gunk came out and then he refilled with new oil.
I never see how much oil comes out--and obviosly it is nearly impossible to get every drop of it since there are some in the filter too. Whne he takes the filter out before the refill, I see more oil...and I assume more or less, everything has been drained out--as much as possible. I will watch out though in the future and first put 4 quarts in and then the rest...I will slowly add.
