All looks good to me, I just made a 500mi trip (TN-MD) 4 times in the past 2 months, and my max is just fine. 1300 shouldn't be too bad. Good chance to check your mileage with different types of driving, too.

...just make sure you bring a lot of music, or you'll go very bored very quickly.

I drove from Jersey to Daytona Beach and back (2100 + 200 driving in Daytona). I checked the air in the tires. Checked the oil level. Checked to make sure everything was secure.

Ohh, and I washed the car.

That's it.

Check all the fluids and tire pressure in all four corners as well as the spare. If driving through countryside or rural area, bring a small gas can (make sure it's trunk safe. Have a fun trip!

I'm taking a trip next weekend that should rack up about 1,000 miles.
A good wash and wax is about all I'm gonna do before I go.
I'll put the full nose mask on to protect the front end from rocks on the highways too.

If your up to date on your regular maintinace you should be fine.

How old are plugs?
How old is PCV valve?
low on power steering fluid?
how old is air filter?
tires properly inflated?

after that you should be ready to go. Smooth sailing.

I would be inclined over inflate the tires slightly, say by 2 or 3 pounds. It will help tread wear and fuel economy, at the expense of a firmer ride. However, you will be on the highway and a firmer ride won't hurt. Not sure what tires you are running, but if you usually use say 33F/32R, try 35 or 36F, 34 or 35R.

I would take the car to a radiator shop and get them to do a pH test on the coolant with a test strip they use. Alternatively, buy the test strip/paper and test it yourself to see if the antifreeze needs to be changed. If you need a radiator flush, don't wait for after the trip. A radiator flush has nothing to do with the timing of your next oil change.

I'd recommend picking up a nose mask, like njmax said, a 1300 mile trip will rape you with rock chips, so spend 100 bucks now to save your hood and bumper

i do around 1000 miles every week on my car. It's a 89 se 5 spd with unknown miles on it. I am moving to vegas in a few months and the only prep for the trip will be filling up the gas tank

1300 miles should be fine for any car that's in decent shape. The times have changed and it's not like our grandpas taking a long trip with their 1984 Saab Turbos or anything.

I think the advice here is all good, just keep in mind 1300 miles is not a lot (it is for a drive, it's not for the car), so don't exaggerate anything, like overfilling fluids etc., esp. brake (which never should be topped-off as it goes down as the pads wear, and if it's below min, you got a problem) There was one suggestion to "overinflate" the tires, please, don't do that. Just make sure you're not low, which could indicate a leak. It's not wise to put more air in because you're going on a trip. You'll wear the center of your treads prematurely if you get into such a habit.

If you want some cheap peace of mind, sign up for AAA Plus. For about $70, you'll get 100 mile flatbed towing for no extra charge, 4 times a year, and maps etc. for 12 mos. Cheap coyne for peace of mind, knowing if you did have a mishap, you make a call on your cell and you're not gonna get robbed by a tow truck. Good luck.

I made a trip from Mn to Orlando with a friend this spring. Started at 7 am and made it to Kentucky about 10pm and finished the next day in about 10 more hours. Long boring drive and very good mileage all the way down. When you start seeing palm trees on the side of the freeway you will know you are close to the end. I wouldn't worry about the pcv valve unless you have 120k or something.

If you stop in Kentucky, try not to laugh at how they talk, bite your tongue or something. My friend started mocking the drivethru person at McDons and I was like SHHHHHH! There going to **** on my burger!

thanks for all the tips so far.

i know 1300 isnt that much, but its that ill have most of what i own in the car with me and by myself going to somewhere ive never driven, and only riden to like twice. a minor breakdown would be a nightmare, ill be on a very tight schedule. so eveyhting has to perform flawlessly.

ill be changing my plugs asap, clutch goes is tomo, or at least its supposed to. and an oil change in the next month. brake fluid just changed.

as far as coolant flushs go, all they do is get all the old out and add new right, if so i think i can handle that.

also ill have the whole trunk and back seat full of my junk, should i raise the rear to compensate or just set my rear dampining up? ill prob set myslef really soft other wise, no reason beating my kidneys
