I take it you mean get rolling and dump the clutch? Could be a weak battery or bad alternator, go get it checked out at an advanced auto or auto zone

You've given us just short of no information at all. What does the car do when you turn the key? Do you hear the starter engage, or the engine try to turn over, or just nothing? Does the starter just click and nothing happens? If nothing happens at all, have you had the alternator and battery checked out by a parts shop?

..like I said, we need more information. It's like telling a doctor - 'I've got some pain, but then I can make it go away. Diagnose.'

That would be your starter. Either the solenoid contacts are worn down too far, or the entire thing may have just failed.

Same thing happened on my '98 Dakota with a Nippon-Denso starter, the solenoid contacts were worn down to the point where apparently there was no good electrical connection, 9 times out of ten there was a click then nothing.

Could also be a 'dead spot', but not sure how that works.

In any case, replace your starter, problem solved.

Should last the what, max 2 weeks before your next paycheck. It'll probably last for a bit (the Dakota had been on the same crappy starter with the clicking issue for at least 1.5 years), just may be harder to start as time goes on, more trying.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

As far as starters, Autozone/Advance Auto/O'Reilly's/Napa reman' starters have been pretty hit or miss around here, some get 'quality' units, others have 6 defective in a row. I'd suggest a Nissan or Bosch reman.

It could still just be a weak battery even though the lights work but it may also be the starter have it checked out

Considering that your problems started with cold weather, it could be a week battery.

I am 95% sure it is your starter solenoid. I had the same symptoms as you and finally tracked it to that. The starter worked fine when I put power right to it and avoided the solenoid. I ended up replacing the whole thing, because I figured at 100K I could use a new starter as well. Also the price for a solenoid was $40 and for the whole thing was $130.

sometimes if it's not starting u can try giving your starter a whack and that will help it start. but you can only do that so many times.
