I'll probably stick with stock calipers in the rear, just put in some quality pads. This sensor in the q45 pads will trigger a brake light on a max? or this feature only really work on a q45?

Not that I'll let my pads get that low anyways . . .

And I take it in terms of stopping power the Q45 and J30 are pretty much on the same level? And Q45 and J30s would clear down stock wheels or does the rotor need milling down as Tilley indicated?

 

Rotor will clear the wheels, I am just not positive that the wheel will clear the calipers- using SawBlades for instance.

Sensor on the Q45 pads will only work on the Q, its basically a sensor that when it wears down due to it being ground off by the rotor- creates a open circuit and the on-board computer sees it saying the brakes are worn. This happens around 15% life left on the pads. They have those sensors on the front and rear brake pads, and if you repleace them with high performance aftermaket pads you need to just take the wires out of the pad and loop them togheter to make the computer think they are not worn.

Its a nifty lil feature, especially since most people who bought Q45s brand new never checked their brakes anyways, and checking them without pulling the wheels off the car was hard- due to the wheel design not exposing any of the brake components. Once the light came on person would take their car in to get it inspected.

J30 was much lighter than the 4100-4300lbs Q45 so it braked better. My Q45 stops really good also thanks to really thick rotors and sports car like suspension which is shared with the 300ZX and Skylines. For a car that big n heavy it handles light years ahead of a stock Maxima.

 

I noticed that. My Q45 calipers have wires and a sensor on it.

 

I have a set on my 99 and my 97 i have 16" 5 spoke se wheels on one they clear fine. I will check on the saw blades i gotta pull on off my other 97. I almost guarentee they will work. Braking is alot better especially whit alot of stop and go driving where the brakes fade.

I dont see why you would want to use stock rotors, they are too thin. Stock Q/J are 30mm and so are 300zx's. Maxima are either 24 or 22 IIRC/

These larger calipers MIGHT cause the rotor to warp easier.

If you use the Z/Q/J rotors you have to mill it down 3mm just like if you used the Maxima rotors with these calipers.

I'm sure its more cost effective to get Q/J/Z rotors, get them milled down and use which ever caliper.

I guess it boils down to how much braking power do we need/want? If we want to stop on a dime cobra rotors and Q/J caliper would be the best bet.

My rotors are close to done, and my pads are at the same point. This is the perfect time to go with either rotor and new caliper with pads.

I'm going to price cobra rotors vs Q/J/Z rotors and maybe go with the cheaper... dont know for sure.

 

Cobra rotors are about 95shipped which is not bad at all.

brakets would cost much more than milling down. If shops charge about $10 a rotor to cut rotors, I'm sure they would mill them down for the same price if not a few bucks more.

You have to go to a machine shop to mill the rotors. It could range from 20-40 per rotor.

I planned on getting the rebuilt fully loaded calipers from Autozone/Rock auto for 50 bucks.

your right. ebay has some for that price (some cheaper, some more expensive).

$54 from rockauto is a good price, especially if it comes loaded.

What about the $50 core? you'll get charged that when you dont send back some calipers. or will you send the stock ones back?

 

I found some J30 calipers at a local junkyard. I can send um in as a core.

I would like to try, at a local autozone, to give them my 4th gen calipers and see if they notice; if they do I will be like oops, I gave you the wrong calipers. If they dont say anything, I will sell the junkyard J30 calipers I bought for more than I bought them for

Well put it this way, stock wheels are 15". The rotors themselves are 13"! You need 17" min to clear this bbk. Plus the right offset and spoke design.

Not quite sure actually. Probably 4-5 sets of each. I'll keep making them as long as people want them. But as you know, I'm selling the max and bought a G35 sedan. This current batch as been around for some time. I'm not into making these, paying the fabricators and then just sitting on them for months on end until they sell.
