Stupid Oil change question

Stupid Oil change question
I'm stupid and picked up the wrong oil filter, I think. It was pretty small, like 2.5" dia x 2.75" long. I put it on anyway, b/c I already drained the oil and mutilated the old filter trying to get it off. So, will it hurt my engine to leave it on 'til the next 3k? or should I take it off pretty soon and change my oil agian w/ the right filter?

I have done the same ting before. I got the application for my '92 Stanza instead of the '96 Maxima while in the store - brain fart. I also discarded the old one before I realized the new one was wrong. I put it ona and figured it couldn't hurt if I changed it back soon. It ended up being about a week and a half before I changed it to the right one. I had no problems whatsoever. You'll be fine. That engine lasted for 167K before my wife blew it by running it hot (no coolant at all in the radiator = bad) for a long period. But Now I have a complete '97 engine that only had about 60K miles when I got it. I love the salvage yard.

At autozone we sell the 6607 STP, its the right filter so dont worry, it is short though. ive had people ask me about that a lot, it only has to do with the amount of oil that flows through it. Its the same size as fram(not that id use fram) if you want a better and longer filter get the Bosch 3323 for 5.99 or Mobil 1 filter but their like 10.99, but for now your fine, 6607 is correct.

Stick with the Nissan OEM filter, or alterntatively Purolator PureOne, WIX or Napa Gold.

Normally I'd use the OEM, but STP works for now.

"Years ago Fram was a quality filter manufacturer. Now their standard filter (the radioactive-orange cans) is one of the worst out there. It features cardboard end caps for the filter element that are glued in place. The rubber anti-drainback valve seals against the cardboard and frequently leaks, causing dirty oil to drain back into the pan. The bypass valves are plastic and are sometimes not molded correctly, which allows them to leak all the time. The stamped-metal threaded end is weakly constructed and it has smaller and fewer oil inlet holes, which may restrict flow. I had one of these filters fail in my previous car. The filter element collapsed and bits of filter and glue were circulating through my system. The oil passage to the head became blocked and the head got so hot from oil starvation that it actually melted the vacuum lines connected to it as well as the wires near it."

then what is a good oil filter to use for the max, after oem of course? ive been using the mobil 1 for a while and i think i like it!
heres another question, the owners manual says to put in 4 1/4 quarts of oil, but when i check the oil on the dip stick after its alwayz low, why is that? this might be a stupid question but im curious.

I've used the Fram filters for a while on my 95' Nissan P/U from the time i bought it, 35,000 miles to 181,000 now. Also started using them on my 98' Maxima SE when i bought it, 96,000 to 170,000 now, but i did change to the Tough Guard line of the Fram filters for the one excepitional reason,,,, the Anti-Drain back design. The Maxima always, ( More during cold weather), had a slight and very quick rattle at first start up. I talked to a former Nissan repair tech. and that is what he reccomended was one of the new type oil filters with the Anti-Drain back design. IT CURED THE START UP RATTLE!!!
Is Fram the better filter?????? My bro. had a Chevy Spectrum Turbo that blowed a fram filter apart, and you couldn't give him a lifetime supply of them, so it's your own choice.

which toyota filter is that and does it fit the 5th gens?
on another note, how do you know if a filter has the anti drain back? would it specify on the back?
