CV axle drive shaft - how the hell do i get this into the tranny?
'99 i30 auto w/ LSD
I have spent the past 2-3 hours trying to get this b!tch into the f'in tranny and i'm about to develop tourets syndrome. How the hell do I get this thing into the tranny? Apparently, what I thought was "in" last time wasn't. and the stupid thing came out today. Luckily I didn't see any damage to the gears. I'm going freakin' nuts
BTW
The non-lsd auto people, did yours have 2 splines, one bigger then the other on the inner portion of the axle?

If it's not staying in the differential, you may have a problem with the axle or the differential itself.
Did you buy a new axle? Where did you get it from? If not, is the end of the axle chewed up?
An axle should just pop into the axle housing in the differential. It should NEVER just pop out.

Something isn't right, the axle should just pop into place pretty easily, and as Mike said, it really can't just pop out. Are you sure you have the correct axle for your transmission/vehicle/year/make/model?????

Yeah, I compared the sizes to my old axle and the only difference is the rebuilt one is grinding down a bit at the very tip (the splines), but none after where the snap ring seats. I think mine may be more difficult because I have an LSD so I have 2 splines to seat in. None of the teeth are chewed up

I have never put in a LSD axle. I think you can make sure you have the correct one if it has two "clips" on it (someone please correct me if I am wrong), but I think that is the easy way to make sure its an lsd axle. Also one problem I have run into on another car (mazda protege, same axle clips) was that the clip was a little bit stretched and try to force it did not work. So what I did was rotate the clip on the axle until the gap was at the bottom, make sence? Then it slid right in because it was no longer pushing its self up. Try rotating the clip so the gap is at the bottom of the axle (assuming you have the right axle), once I did this the axle slid right in.
