35w HID vs 50w HID

I've lately seen newer 50watt aftermarket HID systems. Does anyone know how they compare with the current 35watt systems? How do they differ in specs (lumens, output, lifespan, etc ) Also any pictures of comparisons or personal experience is appreciated.

The XTEC 50W Racing HID kit has been ppular with the Mazda6 crowd. They all say it is brighter than the 35W HID kits and it is a very noticeable difference. Go to

mazda6club.com and mazda6tech.com for reviews.

some guy on HID forums customized and modded the denso (toyota and lexus) oem ballast to run up to 75 watts. The problem is that the higher you go in wattage, the more you can't see in the darker areas where light hits. I am trying to think of the word, but its like tunnel vision I guess since your eyes will focus more on the lighted area and black out the darker areas. 50 watts would suffice but the higher in wattage would make the bulb a little but more on the yellower side so you might have to get a 5000k bulb to compensate for the increases yellowness (but this might also be due to the construction of the projector so it might be different on a reflector HID system).

If I understand right, they also cause the capsule to not last as long. Not that it's a huge deal since HID capsules last ungodly long as it is. IIRC, a lot of the 50w systems on eBay are just a marketing ploy. Some are real, though, and the benefits are obvious. I would not go any higher than the normal 35w, personally.

Soon to be slower?

Anyway yeah, Zenons > xenons > Xena in terms of brightness.
