Good OBD reader
I have this one:
http://www.autoxray.com/products.aspx?sub=readers&id=33
It works very well, is simple to use, and has plugs for OBDI, OBDII (what we use), EEC, and ALDL - plus the new protocols for new vehicles. Also comes with a CD/website support to help you figure out what the codes mean if you don't have a resource like the .org.
That company also makes a few lower models that have ONLY OBDII, see the upper right of the webpage there..They also make some scanners that have some control aspects as well...

Autoxray is selling a discontinued model, EZ-LINK for $99 (regular $299). It is a OBD scanner and can record and play back live data. The web site is not clear, but I got an email from Autoxray that this EZ-LINK unit is CAN capable.
