Luxeon LED Replacement Bulbs

Has anyone bought the new LED bulbs from Autolumination, Superbrightleds.com, or elsewhere? Both vendors are now selling 3-watt single Luxeon LED bulbs (in 1156/1157 form, among others) which they claim have 130-180 degree light output and are brighter than stock incandescent bulbs. I already have LED bulbs (with 36ish regular LEDs each) and they're fairly bright, but I would say they're slightly dimmer than stock. Brighter would be better. All of the new cars with LED tails (e.g. Accord) have rows of the super flux LEDs and man they are bright! It's impressive to have the pure LED colors with such intensity.

It's pretty expensive to outfit your car with these bulbs when they are $20+ a piece. Anyone know if the expected life of these Luxeon/high flux LEDs is as good as regular LEDs? Wouldn't want to worry about them burning out after a year.

I'm not interested in custom LED taillight designs because I don't have the money and I think the stock housings look great...they just need the instant-on and pure color of LEDs inside. So I'm hoping to hear some testimonials on these new bulbs.

Luxeon LEDs aren't new.

Heat is the primary concern with them.

gonna wait for the new osram LEDs to go on the market, hope they will be as versatile as the ones that are out now . Check this article out for details. They are bright as hell!!

edit: I will still probably not be able to afford them, ratz.

+1

They usually don't have adequate heat-sinking (the LED "bulbs" in question) for heat dissipation and fail pretty quickly.

I have a Luxeon Star in my dome that's lasted a while, but it's only ever on for a short period of time. Nothing like running light.

In the pictures it looked like they had hefty heat sinking, but yeah, who knows how good the design is and if it's even got the right kind of contact with the bulb to effectively dissipate heat. I don't think there's any warranty on these LED bulbs so it's definitely a gamble if you buy a new product.

Well yeah, but that's a lot different than the bulbs using tiny automotive bulb bases.

BTW - nice choice on the truck lamp clusters.

thanks for bringing this back, captain spam..

on superbrightleds they claim the bulbs will last 50,000 hours. I dunno if thats just company advertising, or if there's some truth to it.
