Acura 3.5TL Killed & Grilled
#1
Today I approached an intersection where 3 lanes lead into the intersection, and then merge into a single lane on the other side. The "thru-lane" is the left lane, for soccer moms and the like. The center lane ends about 300' after the intersection, and is popular for passing. The right lane ends about 120' after the intersection, so not too many people try to pass from there. The right lane is for dare-devils only...
The light was red, and the typical soccer mom was waiting in the left lane. The 3.5TL was in the center lane, waiting to pass the soccer mom on the inside. I pulled up into the right lane, asking for trouble...
The light turned green, and we were off! The 3.5TL launched hard, but didn't last long, only until it became apparent I was going to romp & stomp... after about 30'. I pulled hard on him, and beat him to the merge point by 3-4 car lengths. I had my foot out of it before I hit 50-mph. No contest...
I looked into my rearview mirror just in time to see the soccer mom in her minivan force the 3.5TL to speed again up to beat her (!) to the merge point! Muwahahahahaaa!

Well, it's a nice kill, but there is no 3.5TL. There's a 3.5RL which is a slug by any standard. Then there's a 3.2TL.

The Acura either had to floor it again, swerve over on the shoulder, or get crunched by a minivan. The soccer mom was behind both of us by some distance. There is NO WAY she could have passed the Acura at the choke point. If she had been driving a Lamborghini Diablo, she wouldn't have had enough room to complete the pass without forcing the Acura to react defensively... What in the world was she thinking?
She was probably talking on her cell phone, and totally oblivious to all traffic around her...

I don't know what it is about Acura owners, but this dude in a brand new CL was acting like he was bad *ss. Was a middle aged dude and after he got spanked bad he didn't try it again at the next light. I spanked him with my 98, that CL must be mush with the auto. Was not a Type S though.

Well, honestly, a 3.5RL is not a particularly fast car. 0-60 in mid 8's I think. Not even a challenge for a 5-spd Maxima.
And Shing is right. There are idiots who drive all sorts of cars, including Acuras and Nissan Maximas.
