checkup MAF with multimeter

i was reading the writeup and was just curious as to what "backprobing" is with the leads? And confused, if the pos. to the wire to be tested, where does the negative go?

i saw or was involved in a thread that dealt with this a while ago. i never got an answer. when i just poked around with the probes i ended up shorting the signal and the engine sped up, then i checked the dash and i threw a SES light and MAF code. so i don't recommend my version of 'backprobing', meaning pressing the lead into the foam stuff until you hit wire and short the signal. i'm guessing that you could get these values by probing the ECM, but that's more work than i was going to do.

The specs are in volts, the signal voltage to be specific. With out the power supply it isn't going to register anything.

I use my SAFC to ensure proper MAF V.

Easy: Disconnect the SAFC, and then throw in into the nearest trash can.................

0-5v. Safc gives MAF %. A little math gets you where you need to be.

Now I have a Cipher, so well, it gives raw voltage as well as a few other items.

Under which setting do you see the "MAF %" and how do I convert that percentage into voltage. I'm a newbie at this .

If you have the SAFc set-up correctly you can see it as well as TPS/RPM etc...

Anyhow, anything ~or over 4.75v should read 100%.

Instead of using that, why dont you just test the MAF w/ a multimeter?

5 x % should give you voltage?

So the TPS voltage is the actual MAF voltage?

I was with my car today.

With SAFC II I went under sensor check, CAR WAS OFF, key in ON position. My foot off the pedal the voltage was 0.5V, with the pedal floored the Voltage was 4.6xx V.

That's not the way to test the MAF. Get a multimeter and check the voltage @ idle, and ~4000RPM.
