Found a Max but does this seem shady??

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...000&cardist=15

'99 Max SE...Sterling mist, etc. Says car has approx 55k but replaced odometer w/one reading 112k. Wouldn't the warranty likely cover it if the car actually just now had around 55k? I'm seriously thinking about getting the car if it drives alright but I don't want to wait this long and then find something is screwy or illegal...no vin posted so I can't do a remote Carfax...

Thanks guys

Jeremy

I'd call and get the vin. That will tell you quite a bit about it. Why the discrepancy in mileage?

I would definitely get a Carfax on it. Also it appears to be lacking fogs, which could indicate it's been in an accident and repaired (SE's came with them).

something is up with that car, fogs are missing and the odometer was replaced without being readjusted..i'd stay away, why would anyone put an odometre on with double the mileage and expect to sell? He's got a better shot just selling the car with 112k on it.

Sounds fishy to me .... why replace odometer with one with higher miles.

Probably the other way around. CAR has 112k miles, but was in an accident so the (replaced) engine has 55k? That makes more sense to me...

If that's true I'd probably be more afraid of buying that car, because if it was in a bad enough accident that they needed to replace the engine there is probably other problems going on.

However if the guy maybe did just do an engine swap that'd be fine. But I'm skeptical because its lacking fogs, and there is one picture. The back or right side could be destroyed and you wouldnt know.

Keep looking, there are better less sketchy maximas.

I did this with mine, though I never planned on selling it.

Yeah, I called the same evening that I posted this...I asked if it was still for sale and he said 'uh......well, um....no it's sold....uhhh....'

The background pic didn't help his case either so yeah, even though it was the color and style I've been wanting (esp mileage IF true), I'll keep waiting....that's good ole ghetto Memphis for you...

Thanks for the feedback guys...

anytime someone says that they 'replaced the engine so it doesn't reflect the odometer milage' makes me cringe and weary - I'd pass
