I have seen advertisements for mufflers, b-pipes or the entire cat back that talk about gaining horsepower with little loss of low end torque. My question is why would an increase in exhaust flow reduce low end torque? Thanks,

Yes it does cause a minor loss in the idle-3000rpm power, but you gain more 3000-6600rpm power than you lose. The only problem is the noise factor.
