Whats up..I recently bought my '95 max se for 10k. It's only got 50k miles on it, so im assuming the tranny is ok. But I hear nothing but bad things about auto's and quick accel. ...is don's valve body upgrade really worth the 450$ ? Does it elimate the crappy shifting, and lengthen the life and speed of your auto trans. ? Also, isnt it hard to take out the transmission and ship it up to him ?
Thanks for all the help people !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No need to R&R the tranny

He had a group deal about a month ago, no one knows if he'll do another gd in the future. Besides he sends you a VB (with a core charge that will be refunded when you return your VB) to reduce the down time. Just today I installed one of his VB, so far I'm pleased. I need to do more testing before posting "my full" opinion on the VB.

The VB mod causes the transmission to shift quicker, but at the cost of "firmer" shifts. Firmer meaning a little bit more harsh. If you are looking for smooth Toyota shifts, then the VB mod is not for you. If you are willing to accept rougher shifts for acceleration, the VB mod is a good mod. Also, it involves removing the valve body, not the entire transmission.

I'm really considering this as my next big mod. but $450 is a good deal of money, plus paying for install, does it really kick like .4 off your 1/4 mile time for a N/A auto max? if so i think having the VB mod, a Y pipe, and an intake might satisfy my need for power.
