The article is pretty interesting. . . Some interesting things the article mentioned:
1. 6 speed won't be avail. until 2 months after the car is released, so sometime in october.
2. The manual will go from rod linkage to a cable linkage, which gives it a slight loss of feel according to the writers.
3. Gear ratios are all new for this car 1-6, so it is a true "close ratio" 6-speed. In other words they just didn't add a gear like some companies have done.
4. As for performance numbers, they don't have anything yet just the 260HP and 246 ft/lbs. They did make the following comment though: "On the road the engine is superb. It's a leap over the competition, comparible to the Volkswagon VR6 engine when it was new. In both cases you would think you're driving a turbocharged engine without any turbo lag. The power is not only broad, coming on seemingly from just above idle and then staying on all the way across the tach to redline, but it's oh-so-smooth."
5. The Maxima will now be Drive By Wire, and have continuous variable valve timing.
6. Headlights look a lot like the ones on the new Q. . . Doesn't say if it is HID, but they definately look like projection lights.
7. They complain about the handling of the car. They say it hits the bump stops pretty often, and they were complaining that for a car that claims to be a 4DSC, that they are giving it too much of a luxury feel.
8. There is different steering setups for the manual and automatic setups. . . I guess the manual tranny steering has more feel to it.
9. Bigger brakes.
There is some more stuff, but this is what I thought was interesting. . . I am sure you can read it for yourself when it is posted. . .

There is a summary and pictures of the new Maxima at: www.vwvortex.com, under "car lounge" and under the topic of: Edmunds first drive: 260hp Maxima. IMO I think the existing 5th generation looks better than the upcoming 5.5th gen.
