I was just wondering what car would be the best to buy and mod.I dont know if alot of you know but in about 3 months I am looking to buy a second car.Because my Max is at 207,000 miles and still running strong *KNOCK ON WOOD* but I need a second car for my everyday 110 mile drive. So I want another car that is very modable.I would prefer Nissan(I AM NOT PLANNING ON GETTING RID OF MY MAX)just thought I should say that again. So here is the list of cars I am looking into.I do need a backseat,It will also be a 5 speed.

im thinking the GSX..... its all wheel drive so off the line they are bada**.... and if you upgrade the turbo, inercooler...and chip you could run 12s i would think......i know a girl in auburn that has a gsx and only has intake and exhaust and she was running 13.3-13.4 everytime at the track.....since its AWD you can rev to 6k and dump the clutch

I'd go for the GSX....

my friend has a '95 GST and its really easy to make hat thing butt fast! Intake($60), full exhaust($3-500) and boost controller($80) set to 14-15psi(the limit of the stock turbo) will have you running low 14's high 13's easy and thats before you even upgrade the turbo and for WAAAY under $1k, you can't beat that!!! as for the reliablity...I've heard mixed reviews on the DSM turbos, but my friend's seems to be doing fine, minus the f'ed up UDP we replaced last week! if I had extra money I'd have one of these bad boys right now, IMO its much more economical to mod out than our particular Maxes(VE or VG)!! as for the space issues, don't look for too much of a backseat in the Eclipse...plus IMO with the other cars you mentioned the REAL fun doesn't start till after you swap/add a turbo or something to that matter! I say Eclipse GST or GSX, eventhough the GSX is AWD, I didn't see much of a huge diffenrece when my two frineds raced!

as for running low 13's in an Eclipse with just intake and exhaust, I highly doubt that...at wheel HP with those mods is only about 188-190, eventhough its a light car, I don't see that being enough for 13.3's...maybe with the psi maxed out to 15 on the stocker, but I doubt it!

First I would like to know the criteria for this? In terms of the most available parts, power adders, styling and lowest cost of parts; none of those will come close to what is out there for Mustang 5.0L's. In terms of spending the least amount of money on top of a car to get the most gains, look doing a BPU on a Supra. If it is just the best cheap I-want-to-be-a-Rice-Boy car, then it is definitely in the list above.

GSX no contest. man, i almost got that car in 95 as a HS graduation gift... *sigh* instead, my parent's store went out of business and i had to settle for a basic 95 cavalier. and it was purple, hahaha.... but i shore had good memories in her. but like ryan said, the awd makes a huge difference plus it has a turbo. but definetely go for a awd or a rwd. you already have a fwd, so try something different.

I was going to say the same thing. This is going to be your daily driver, so that may not be a good idea though. A DSM with a couple of little upgrades or a Supra TT with BPU will still be very driveable every day and more than fast enough.

haha yea a RB26DET would be great, but seriously, a 240sx with a SR20DET will smoke Mustangs easily... the engine is extremely reliable, and its almost the same as the SR20DEs in the 200SXs... there alot of people who have swapped them... my friend is one... and its a great deal... ~2000 or so for everything... and it doesnt require a tranny swap i dont believe cuz the KA24DE is just a swap from the SR20DET Silvias in Japan
and the SR20DET can hang 400hp if you wana push it, but even at 280 you can smoke Mustangs
My friend uses his as a daily driver and has for 6 years after the swap... its a cool *** car i can show you pix and hook you up with body kits! haha

Okay take my advice, I would. Well start searching through a listing of stolen recoveries and repairable autos locally. Search for a 240 SX thats in good exterior condition. Preferrably one with high miles or just a gutted interior. Junk the old engine (try and sell it if you can) and purchase a SR20DE-t. These motors can put out 300-400 hp and remain very streetable. I would suggest keeping it around 300 hp with a conservative turbo since its gonna be a daily driver. I suggest the 240 SX because of its rear wheel driver platform, very, very, very neutral handling. I also think that the 240's shape is attractive even after all these years. And there are some nice conservative body kits out there that can really beautify the 240. Check out some old issues of Sport Compact Car magazine they did a whole build up on the 240 and the really praised its handling but the US-spec engine is POS. Although HKS makes a turbo kit for it, it still sucks. Just a side note, when shopping around for JDM parts you may see the designation S14, thats the chassis designation for the 240. You have everything in your favor. You already have a primary car, so you can afford down time while you build up the 240. And if you shop wisely I think you can complete the whole project including car for under $9000. Of course depending on how much you pay the 240 to get started. Remember dont pay extra for the SE model since you'll probably end up swapping out the stock suspension and wheels anyway. And I bet you'd be one of few people riding around with such a unique Nissan. There are plenty of DSM's all over the place. Keep it in the family, get the 240SX.

I need a second car because I am beating my Max driving it everyday.Plus I have a GF and a son so I need a backseat. And soon my son will be in school so I will be needing a second car for my GF to drive anyway. But I love to mod cars and dont want a little sissy car for my everyday routine. My Max is sweet I can cruise comfortably and open that thing up on the weekends. But I want another little car to beat on because I love my Max so much I dont want to see it die.

the 240 with a SR20DET... haha its a whupping horse.. it take ALOT of beating
and it would be a really unique car like 2ndMax said... witha body kit you cant tell WHAT car it is... it looks sweet.. even after all these years... I was gona buy one in Taiwan... the land of traffic tiny streets and hellish scooters... it is a very streetable car. My gf saw the car and she was like whoa!! haha like she thought it was awesome... she thought it was 10 times better than my max...
stay with Nissan... the engines are built like tanks... no worries man... its a great car... if i had some spare $$$ around i'd do the exact thing... simple as that
