you fill up with 95 on a regular basis? I was under the impression octane that high really does nothing for a car like the Max, what's your reason for it? plus it must be substantially more even over "premium" fuels..

I was cheap sometimes filling up with 87, 90. That caused my SES turned on which cost me $600 to repair/reset by dealer. Will never put anything less than 91 again. (max. 97)
In the midwest, they start mixing crap ethanol (10%) in the gas. This makes my mileage went 28 in the summer to 23 in the winter.

As I said in another thread, gas buyers can take a lesson from the current pet food poison scare. There are 42 brands of cat food and 53 brands of dog food on the recall list that came from the same factories, from name brands to discount store brands.
Just like pet food, gasoline comes from just a few sources. There's very little difference in the end product.

I just filled up my 2000 SE for the first time today and it cost me $52!!!
Much more than the $25 it cost me to fill up my Integra but I'm not complaining because the Maxima is a much better ride and I actually have leg room now.
I used 93 at Hess? Anyone have good/bad experiences with Hess?

Ive run 87 since ive bought the car 2.5 months ago and have had no trouble with it. (Knock on wood). However I am considering to switching to Sunoco 94 when I change my KS and change a few other maintenance items (small tune up at 110K miles).

Any lower, and a modern high compression engine will compensate (without knocking) by retarding timing. The VQ, for example, is one such engine with digital knock management. It won't ping if you feed it 86 octane, but you sure as heck aren't getting optimal performance out of the engine. Whether this is noticeable or worth the extra savings incurred by using a lower AKI/RON fuel, is up to the individual.
I respectfully disagree withTarheel on this i havent read all the posts as it would take a year but i did put 87 in my car yresterday to see if i get better mileage or anything different. Well i can say i will not use 87 again as the car does ping. It will ping, not bad, but enough to go back. Has anyone else had the ping with lower grade gas.

ok OCTANE BOOSTER is ****. it doesn't raise you even by 1 octane. your adding basically nothing into a full tank. your luck if it raises it by a 1/2 point.
i ONLY use 93 in my 03 40k miles
i ONLY use 87 in my 92 230k miles
afaik: the max retards it's timing if you use under 91. thus less power and worse mpg. on top of that you will push the go fast peddle down further to accelerate at the speed you used to in the max which will decrease you MPG even more.

I put in 87 in my 2k2 one time by accident (mental block i guess) and It felt as if my baby was going to stall out at lights. The car ran like crap, my ses light turned on, and I thought I had a unicorn dancing around under my hood from all the different noises coming from it. I promptly drove about 200 miles in 5th trying to get rid of that garbage gas. I got to about 1/4 tank and and went and put the sunoco 93 octane in there and the problems gradually went away. Never again cheap gas! Why save yourself 4 bucks on a full tank? Is it worth it for a 9,10,11k + car? You woulnt give your baby skim milk instead of formula because it's cheaper, would you?

Does pure acetone added to gas increase gas mileage?
There is a myth going around the internet that adding 2 - 3 oz. of pure acetone per 10 gals of gas will increase gas mileage and performance. This sounds scary and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this and what you thought about the issue. I have an 07' max se loaded, I love it but the gas mileage is horrible. Avg. 15-17 mpg city + highway 50/50

Myth Busters tried that and it did nothing for gas mileage and the acetone will eat away at the seals in the fuel system.

give your 07 some time, mileage should steadily improve over time, I drive mine pretty hard and usually never drop below 22mpg and thats with pushing it through traffic mixed with suburb driving and more idling time then I like

Miles per gallon means nothing because you buy gas in gallons, not miles. Iv'e learned to calculate gpc (gallons per hundred miles). This gives an accurate snapshot of what your car does and excactly what the cost of driving is at any time.
