I have a 91 SE with about 94k. What happened yesterday morning was really wierd. I was going to get it inspected when the steering wheel and the engine start shuddering while I was at a stop light. It shuddered even worse during acceleration as well so I decided to go home. On the way home, it stopped. This happened a month ago except I stopped the car for an hour and it went away. Anyone have an idea what this shuddering is from and how it can be fixed?

 

When my fuel injectors acted up in my 91SE it would shudder....at idle & at accelleration...but it would soon go away..did you check engine light go on? Just a thought.

 

fuel injectors? does that mean they have to be cleaned? I was thinking that it might be the exhaust. But what's wierd is that the check engine light hasn't come on. Do you think it would be safe to drive from NJ to CO in the condition its in? Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll bring it to my mechanic tomorrow and ask if he can take a look.

 

I drove the car around today for about 4 hours all over the place, highways, local roads, back roads to try and see if the shaking would stop. During this time the engine light never came on. However, this time the problem didn't go away. During acceleration and idle, the engine, the gas pedal, and the steering wheel would shake. Sometimes it wasn't too bad. Not only that, from outside, it sounds really really bad, tomorrow i'm bring it to my mechanic. hopefully he'll find time to look at it.

 

The mechanic finally figured out why one of the cylinders wasn't firing today, and yes, it was the fuel injector! Thanks for the help sarah.
