Is it just me or...
am I the only one who has lost all interest in modding my 2002 maxima anymore. Don't get me wrong I love my car and and have done my fair share to it but I am just not as excited about it as I used to be. Maybe the car is getting older or maybe I'm getting older.... Rather spemd my money on my house than my car now I guess. Does anybody else feel that way or am I just plain getting old (only 27 by the way). I don't hear as much from al lot of the older heads as I used to....Polo,Playero. Juice etc.......
Kinda feel the same way, and I've only had her for a year... Hoping to get a 350Z in the next year or two. I decided to save my money instead of mod and blow it on a car I'm not going to keep forever. I'll mod the Z...
it all depends on your financial responsibility. Apparently, you would rather spend your money on something else. Maybe you have bills or another hobby? If your happy and content with the way your car looks, then
.....
I plan on keeping my Max for a long time, so modding will never end.

I held off modding my car until the extended warranty expired. Then I had planned to go wild (custom body work, radical chassis work, cut/chop every inch of the car etc.). I had money saved up in anticipation of the move. But now that I've done a couple mods, I realize that the Maxima will never be the car I want it to be, or would take too much time, money, and effort. (Time being the biggest constraint). Instead, now I'm just planning to hang on to my Max until something closer to my dream car comes along. The fact that I haven't rushed out to plunk down my savings on a new car says something about the Max though. I still love her. Replacing her isn't going to be easy.
I feel somewhat that same way. I would continue to mod but my family, home and future financial security comes first. I guess we are getting older and somewhat wiser in our decisions. My dirty maxima will always be a member of the family until she explodes. I'm saving for an armada and a 1998 bmw 540i. Then i'll have a new toys to play with, if the wife lets me.
I say its just you. me, i've had mine for a year and a half and trying to mod and balance bills out. dropped it last year. im just now getting an intake then again that has nothing to do with it. Its all about appearence and how well you keep it up. it would look just as good as a benz or whatnot with the right set up. maybe you should play around with different set ups like wheels, kits or whatever. when people comment that also makes you feel good and motivates you to keep it clean and modding. even if no one comments im still happy with the car. a maxima well kept gives good impression and shows class outside the car enthusiasts world
This is normal man, nothing to get depressed about. not everyone has to mod a car tyll there is nothing left to mod. just be happy with it the way u have it
by the way, is ur maintenance kept up ? cause u could blow some money on replacing fluids or other things around the engine

very good points. i've now had my 4th gen for a little over two years. i have had: 2 different intakes, 3 sets of aftermarket tails (back to stock; smoked) 2 sets of bumper lights (back to stock; smoked), CE clear black head lights - then retrofitted (now back to stock; smoked), 3 sets of corners, on my 4th exhaust setup, and on 3rd set of rims. it's always a work in progress until you get it just right. once its just right, one of three things will happen: 1) you love it and want to take good care of it until it dies, 2) you want another car so you can slowly tweak on the max to make it show quality, or 3) realize there's not much else you want to do except get rid of it and work on something else. or at least that's just me. my .02
I decided I was done modding when I graduated from college and got a full-time position. Now it's my daily driver for a 65 mile round trip. I found that I subconsciously downgraded most of my mods. All that I run with now is suspension, wheels, audio, intake (for gas mileage purposes). Money is now allocated a little differently.
As an addendum to what I said above, everytime I think I'm done with my Max and I go out to test drive my potential next car, as soon as I sit back in my Max to go home, it's like rekindling an old flame. Like I said, it's going to be hard to replace. And then something happens like yesterday, when the car just runs beautifully. It's never given me any troubles or failed to run, but sometimes it just feels sluggish and bloated and then all of the sudden it's a racehorse again. Maybe the weather?
I feel ya man. I haven't added a significant mod since....several years ago. The only thing I splurge on nowadays are decent tires and maintenance.
There's a time when you realize that modding typically means buying liabilities, instead of assets.

I too say it's normal. I flip flop some times too. Especially when someone I know decides to sell their Max; I really start having thoughts then. But when someone reaches a milestone like 260+whp from a NA VQ35 I get excited again.
Sometimes i feel as if im just wasting money since, its not like spending money on my house that the value actually goes up, but on our max it goes down, but i soon came to realize my cars are my hobby and they keep me happy so i continue to spend money on them and they continue to bring me happiness lol .

feel exactly the same way. as long as i can pay my bills, left over goes to the car...... my girlfriend got next dibs
I'm sorry I never responded back to the question of what I have done to the max. I have a tungsten blue 2002 max. Two tone Katzkin leather seats, panasonic in dash dvd player VQvad something..., 2 Icon tv headrest monitors, 2 12 inch Adirer Brahma's running off zapco 1000 watt amp. zapco 360.4 running cdt speakers front and back. dynamatted trunk. Konig 19" appeal's (sold) whelen 6 strobe light kit (in headlight clearance bulb, fog lights and taillights) full stillen touring kit, stillen FSTB, stillen battery brace, Full catback exhaust, Varad led scanner under car lights, DDE's, blacked out headlights, clear corners, full Tein SS coilovers, blue led's MOMO shift ****, MOMO e-brake and thats about all I can think of right now. I was thinking of doing nitrous and headers but a plasma TV makes me feel better....
I guess I am getting old. It also helps that I work for a rental company and get a company car. I pretty much drive the newest cars all the time. Compliments on my car are nice but make me no money......unlike my house....No knocking anyone for modding because deep down inside I still have that passion for cars, just not the time or the willingness to put my money into a car that could get totalled and give me nothing back.

I do try to keep a balance though. I know that for every dollar I spend, it could be $1.30 if it were invested instead (or something like that). And I won't do anything that will drastically drop the value of my car, like paint it pink and put in a **** headliner. Not that I've been tempted to do that.
This is arguable but..I feel like too much of people's inspiration is based on what other people like, or it is done for other people. But I guess there are few things you do without the influence of others. I just think the whole thing has become a game...everyones trying to take it to the next level and it becomes a huge pissing contest.
I think newer cars are not as fun to modify...not to mention, its not as easy to do usually. An older car has much to be improved on, and your not risking as much tinkering with it as you are with an 02 or whatever. My friend's parents (hes the same age as I am) bought him an 02 max for reliability and he still wants to modify it like his old 97 accord but not only is everything more expensive but it just doesnt feel like it should be messed with...there's not much worn or worth replacing for what he uses it for. The car isn't paid off and what he's messed with already has probably dropped the value to half of what its worth.
Anyway. I think this is where we can differentiate between the hardcore "gear heads" and the people who modify for the approval of others. Not to say you can't bolt on an exhaust and appreciate your car just as much as someone who's done more...
People get all excited at the thought of a newer car simply because its newer...

Forgot about me eh? And no, I have NOT lost interest.
Still modding/learning away.
Its just you. I bought my 1995 Maxima in 2005 and within the first 3 months of owning it I ordered rims and tires, the tokico illumina kit w/ springs, addco rsb, tinted it, and tranny cooler. A year later I have a warpspeed Y-pipe and now I have the rare RED/Clear tails waiting to be painted. Im also thinking of my financial security for the future for me and my family and have decided to limit my modding to maybe twice a year. Its all in your interest of what you are wanting to do.
its not an age thing.
if you do it for yourself and because you like it, your interest might stick around longer. if you do it for others, interest will fade quicker as you will soon realize that you don't really care too much about what other people think as much as you thought.
don't get me wrong, i love it when people are like "hey that looks cool" and stuff. but when my friends are driving rsx, 240sx, 350z, other 2 door "cool" cars and im still driving the max and they dog on me and my family sedan, i still wouldn't trade a thing cuz i know my car rocks. im gonna keep it forever. i bought it cheap (resale sucks) and no point in selling it (resale sucks). its gonna be good when i get a family and stuff. and when i have kids and they start driving, they're starting with the max.

Kinda the same here. I haven't lost interest in modding, I've just lost interest in modding my Maxima. Then again, my Max has just about every go-fast part available on it, so anything else done will have to be 100% custom.
My 240SX, on the other hand, is the track toy and always needs more mods.
Also just bought a house a couple months ago, so I'm pouring cubic yards of money into it getting things set up for the shop.

People Change.
Desires and Needs Change.
Its normal and natural.
If i had a house i'd pimp it out long before dropping another dime into a car.
Full bar, pool table, mantown room, garage/shop, A/V stuff...much more expensive then modding a car and much more worthwhile.
don't feel weird it's NORMAL.
I bought the car at 21, im 25 now and put rims on it and thats the extent of my interest in modding it. I figure its nothing but a bad investment which I will totally replace with something better in the future. I also bought it because I like it alot as-is, and if you dont like a car as-is you shouldnt drop $30,000 on it. Just my .02, I know im in the minority here.
Many people have good points here. A car is not a good investment, it looses value rather quickly, and spending money on mods is a faster way to loose that money.
Invest in something that will last and not depreciate as a car does.
get a kick *** soundsystem
HDTV; LCD plasma, projector
a brand new PC
invest in your home man.
Look at it this way; if the car gets stolen its all gone, all the money u spent. its kinda hard to loose a HDTV just like that

I would mod my cars but I know that once I start, I would get addicted. I'm trying to save my money for more important things like college. Believe me, I'd love to put intake, exhaust, headers, etc. on my 03 but I know that once I start, I would blow all my money on it and focus less on things that are more important in life such as an education.
