HELP!!!! Has ANYONE installed an underdrive pulley on an auto tranny vehicle, specifically a Maxima, but even any car???? I am trying to get specific information on what has to be done. People keep offering to install it but I am wary because I know it's a PITA on an auto car.

THANK YOU in advance!

Installing the underdrive pulley on an auto is no harder than installing it on a 5-speed.

Unorhtadox Racing's instructions indicate that you have to remove the starter and jam a large screwdriver against the flywheel to keep the engine from turning when breaking the pulley bolt loose.
THIS IS NOT NECESSARY!!
Just place your socket and 1/2" breaker bar on the bolt with the handle resting on the ground and facing the front of the car. You may have to add a piece of cheater pipe to the handle so that it will reach. With the ignition switch, bump over the starter. The starter motor makes more than enough torque to break loose the bolt. Just make sure that the engine does not start!

I don't recommend using the breaker bar and trying to turn over the car. I tried this when I put on my UDP and my starter made a very scary sound and didn't turn the flywheel.

I just got under there and pulled with all my strength. It took about 5 minutes to break loose.

Hey Keith, since you install one of your car, would you mind helping me install an UDP on mine? I ordered one from Coz in the group deal thing. He said I have to wait about a week or so.

Not a problem. I'll be giving MardiGrasMax installing the new supercharged engine & 5-speed on the weekend of August 2&3. Maybe you can come by his house and we do it there.

I installed one on my slushbox using an impact to take if off it came off quickly; I didn't take the starter off like the instructions suggested; I then used a makeshift tool to hold the flywheel in place when I tightened it with the impact; this was probably a mistake as I've got a MIL code 0905 (chipped flywheel) which I will ignore until my tranny goes. If I had it to do over again I probably wouldn't as the gain, if any, wasn't noticeable and my car now appears to take a little longer to cool off in this hot climate in which I live.

Well, assuming I get "professionals" to do it (read: Acceleration Plus), it shouldn't be a big deal. I hear the ATX is more responsive with the pulley. I might just end up selling the thing though...I want the VB upgrades so much.

need more power and response!

I hear you, I'd like to do the VB upgrade too but I want it at the group deal price so I'll just wait till it comes up again; why don't you put your name in with Don to be on the next GD list, I already did.

The UDP is ok, I'm not bashing it, just that I might have f'd up my flywheel in the process, shame on ME.

Try the starter trick first...if that doesn't work take it to a shop

The shop shouldn't charge you more than $90.
