Man I'm getting annoyed with the loss of low end torque with my Stillen HiFlow (5spd..I also have a Cattman Y-pipe). Unless you launch at 3500rpm or higher it just doesn't have the punch. If I install a UDP will it help out on lower rpm torque say 1K-3.5K? It is almost like a lag from 1K WOT...you hit 3.5K-4K and then the major kick comes in and after that you are fine through the gears at WOT. I can't imagine how a HiFlow would help any Auto owners (can't launch at a high rpm and shifts early) especially if they don't have a Y-Pipe. Does the Place Racing CAI have the same loss of low end torque as the Stillen? Would a UDP help out in low RPM?

I don't feel a loss

I have a cone intake that sits in the lower half of the stock air box, UDP, Stillen Y-pipe, B-pipe, and 5th gen muffler. I've never really felt a loss at all. I've determined the air coming into the intake is cool outside air and not hot engine air, so I have no answers for you. I felt a huge gain with the Y, B, and 5th gen muffler all over the tach range. The UDP doesn't add much power, but the engine seems to rev faster. It should give you about 3 HP over the curve. It's not much, but I'm happy with it.

When I had my JWT put in, I did not feel any loss in torque. Felt it after I put in my cat back though. Those who says that they don't feel a loss is already used to the way the car runs. Put back the stock airbox and you should notice the difference. It'll pull harder at lower rpms.

No with the cat back there is a loss of back pressure. Combined with a JWT it will haul at high rpms. Low rpm's it's not so great, thus the loss of torque feel. Just look at the 5th muffler. It's variable. Low rpm one side is closed to maximize torque. High rpm, then it's full open.

I have a auto max with the JWT cone filter and just a muffler and I hate how at low rpms it won't get out of its own way. But once its up to 3000 rpm it gets up and goes...

heh, i feel the loss with my 5th gen...

at a red light, EVERYONE is beating me, i mean random people... cars, trucks, minivans...

i only feel the car getting faster around the 3k rpm mark, but by then, the mom in her minivan is already a car length in front of me...

but when i hit the 3k mark, i gently pass her

if you launch at high rpms, you probably wont feel the difference, but then youll look like your racing everyone at the red light

I usually shift at 3,000...hehehe...I'm a very conservative driver. I'm not a slow driver, I'm conservative. It helps to get 28 MPG and still smoke a few people per gas tank.

the low end loss annoys the $hit out of me too... the only time it doesnt have any affect is when you jump off the line with it then its fine but if youre doing about 20 and you try to accelerate it doest almost nothing until it hits the spot where the rpms jump... oh well i guess you learn to deal with it, but it definately is annoying

Greddy exhausts anyone? that would help the low-end torque loss that you've been experiencing. let me know if anyone's interested, $525 shipped

Wrong, I have a Greddy. Like I posted previously, once it's in, you'll feel torque loss even more. I can't imagine how it is for people who did the whole exhaust system; y-pipe, RT cat, cat back system. This setup relieves alot of back pressure so when you punch it the air flows well. I don't have the y or RT cat, so I don't know how it feels under 3K rpm.

Ya I'm lucky to have a 5spd. I rev it up to 3500-4000 and slip it out and if you hit the sweet spot you are flying! Otherwise it like a small turbo kicking in at 3500rpm at WOT from 1000. I made a 4" tube from below the splash guard leading right up to blow on the intake. I feel it works well once your going. Otherwise at standstill the engine bay generates a lot heat. When hit the gas that damn pop intake sucks up all the hot air in the bay. PR CAI has got to better than our pops from standstill and roll. I'm getting use to it but don't like it.

I've had my y-pipe on for about 3 weeks now.

PS Aren't you guys getting hyped up for the 6spd Max...I'm actually dreaming about it. 260HP 6spd mod that bad boy out and WHOA! That car is going to be crazy on a roll!

i dont have a CAI but ive compared my stillen intake to ny96maxse's CAI and the CAI isnt too diffrent... when you give it gas, the rpm's also jump up quick... i guess the CAI is better, also at higher rpms you feel a little more pep with the CAI
