Ok, here is the background. I have a 99 black SE and enjoy it very much. Lease is up June of 2002, and I have been thinking of getting something new before due time. Looking something that would cost much more to lease, and have considered the following:

Audi A4

Off my list because the 1.8T will cost $44,000 Cdn with some goodies. The 2.8 will be closer to $50,000. Looks nice, and AWD. Back seats seems cramped, interior is nice.
No so good dealer (one in our city).

BMW 325i, 330i.

Off my list. Ultimate driving machine base price of $37G for the 325, mid $40G for the 330i, and $49G for the xi. More than I like to spend, and perhaps high maintenance costs. Don't want the 'snob' image either.

Lexus 300IS.

Might be coming off the list. Fun to drive, but small. Not auto dim RR mirror, steering wheel audio control, etc. Decently equipped will be about $44G for 2001, and $46G for 2002 standard. Cars that are half the price are being modified to look somewhat like it.

Acura TL-S.

Yup, soft suspension, but feel nice, comfortable, fast. A number of issues mentioned at the Acura website. $42G fully loaded. Gal friend digs it.

Of course 2002 Maxima, Altima.

I am hoping people will be smiling when they come out. The Altima interior is controversial. MPG remains to be seen. Need to have a look, and go for a test drive. Price will be important for the V6 too. To be competitive it should be $2G or more less than the Accord V6 IMO.

Maxima's interior is nice. Again if it isn't more than 2001's it might be well worth considering. Performance is important. Looks not much different, but has lot of new goodies inside.

What do you think? I might just wait till next summer when the lease is due. Then again, I am eager to get a new toy. I like my 99, absolutely nothing bad to say about it.

Bigbadboss,

Where did you get $42k for a Acura TL-Type S? I bought
a brand new with sideskirts, front airdam, rear valence,
and spoiler with navigation for $34k fully loaded.

Mike

Acura TL-S.

Don't forget that leases aren't about sticker prices...

They're about residual and monthly payment.
Relatively speaking, BMW, Lexus and Acura have tremendous residual, offsetting higher prices. Nissan has "ok"
residual, and Audi borders "bad"

If you get lease quotes on all, I think that you'll find that the Audi is priced out of range, The BMW's closer than you think to Nissan, and that Acura and Lexus are lease "bargains".

good luck

If the Altima and the Accord are the same price for the V6, you are comparing 240hp vs 200 and not to mention state of the art chassis and features. Accord is a dud. Get the Altima.

It kind of depends what you are looking for. Yes, BMW's are expensive, but they do perform very very well. Drive a Maxima through an autocross, then drive the BMW. Then you will see where the extra money is spent. However, the IS300 is pretty similar to 3-series in handling so that would the logical choice given that 2002 will bring a manual IS300.

As for TL, it handles just as well as a Maxima from what I've driven. I took a 2001 I30t through the autocross, and a TL. Both were good, but the TL felt more powerful and easier to control. Keep in mind that we still don't know whether the 2002 Altima's ride quality/handling will be sports oriented like BMW, or family sedan ride oriented like Accord/Camry.
