Yes, they are faster than the 4th gen maximas.

The 0-60 looks about even on paper, but if you race one in real life, the Prelude will kill you after 60. It's a totally different story for 5th gens because their hp don't drop off after 4.5k. If you got a 4thgen max like me, we get no power after 4.5 - 5k, and it's a no match to the mighty Prelude.

Regardless of the fact that power curve on the Prelude is higher in the rpms, its still a close run stock versus stock.

The 4th Gen VTEC was the quickest due to less weight so I would give it a slight edge. The 5th Gen. Prelude, in my opinion, is about the same to just slightly slower.

Magazines also show the 4th gen. Maximas top end around 142-145. The 5th gen. Preludes are shown at 137-140, and the 4th gen. at 140-142, but they are slightly quicker to top end. I am speaking of 5 speeds equipped cars ofcourse.

My 93 Prelude VTEC ran a best of 14.7 when it was completely stock.

I have an auto.

My friend has a '00Prelude (tiptronic) and I can't beat him. And I think a 5spd Prelude will be slightly faster than a 5spd 4th gen. Due to the inherent torque and hp that comes from a v6, the Max might get a jump on the Prelude, but trust me, the Prelude will catch up and you'll be looking at his ricey altezzas unless you have a 5th gen.

There was a long strip of country highway near our school so we used to race often at middle of the night. We call it Blacksburg drag strip.

Also, stock to stock, the 95/96 Maxs have a half car on the 97+ by 60, and exactly a one car by 90.

After I get back my ypipe and cold air, I can test it out and see how it does. I dont even need a dyno, I get to see how good my mods are working right away. It's awesome.

The cars me and my close friends drive are

00 Prelude
00 Accord Coupe
96 GST
00 Maxima (my brother)
95 Maxima
00 Civic SI
92 Prelude SI
98 Max (mine)

All these cars have the usual bolt ons and stuff.

Before my brother got the ypipe, the GST had 3 cars on him by, umm, 100mph I think. After ypipe and OSCAI, he only has 1 car on him now. The ypipe is working good. It dynoed exactly 200 at the wheels.

And the pairing the accord coupe against the 5th Max was just ridiculous. There is no competition at all. It's like the 2 cars are on a completely different class.
I give him a head start, he's like all serious and **** and I hear his cold air and vtec, but I just casually shift up to 2nd and pass him by. The 5th gen is a monster.

I've beaten two 1998+ Prelude 5-speeds to about 70mph in my '97 Auto SE, dead-stock. So far I'm not impressed with the Preludes. One I know for sure was a VTEC - he pulls up afterwards and yells over at me "Man, 0-60 times don't mean **** in magazines!"

last I checked a 4th gen maxima was faster than a 5th gen because of the weight. I've never lost to any prelude or 5th gen, but that is not to say it can't be done.

how much do your cars weigh? I had mine on the scales with full interior, spare and everything (even my toolbox int he trunk) and a quarter tank of gas and my 2k1 weighed in at 3160 lbs. with me driving thats only 3330 lbs. Thats not that much weight to be motiovated by 222 beautiful horsies... and I can understand you beating a 5th gen auto (me certainly, you're about a second faster) but I thought a 5th gen stick beat a 4th gen stick and same for auto's...

5th gens and 4th gens seem to be about the same. Well 95 VS 2K that is. If you compare Motor trend data it shows the 95 Maxima{me } does 10- 6.6 and 1/7 in 15.2 . The 5th gwen doers 0-60=6.7 and 1/4= 15.1 . So as you can see they are really close.

As for Preludes, I have raced several preludes and I have always won by quite a bit. Maybe because my car is modded or the prelude drivers sucked? I don't know.. I will be probably racing some tonight though! Woo hoo!

My car + me + no spare + full interior + 1/4 tank = 3160

84 VW Rabbit vs 00 Prelude

my friend raced a stick prelude in his 84 VW Rabbit and he said they were even the entire way up to 80 mph. ive beaten the rabbit with my stock, automatic 4th gen. so i dont know what to think.

what is this "six degrees of Maxima roadkills" -- I can beat a viper because a friend of mine beat one in his 911tt and his frind beat the 911 with a mustang 5.0 and I raced a mustang at the track and beat it. HA I am now faster than a viper. right

I raced a 01' 5-speed VTEC Prelude this past week. He had headers, CAI, and complete cat back exhaust. We raced from a light and also from a 20 mph roll and I spanked him both times, but I guess I had a slight "Sleeper" advantage. Real nice kid though and he actually didn't fall too far behind me after I pulled on him. He had a nice setup and if I had been NA I think he would have easily taken me down.
