after seeing the new Maxima commercial, thought why not the Bonneville Salt Flats?

Stretch some Maxima Legs and see what everyone really has.

That's a good idea, not a crazy one!

Another good idea: any respectable racetrack! (preferably with good hotels nearby and a Nissan dealer within 100 miles). SE-R.net/SERCA did that for their `99 convention, 1 day at Buttonwillow and 1 day convention in LA.

I live in atlanta and have taken road coarses up at Road Atlanta and know for a fact that you can rent out the track for a day.. that would be really cool to get a bunch of maximas up there

I'm all for it. Then I could actually go. I will warn you though, your car will feel disappointingly weak at the altitude there.

Jerry, you mentioning maxus a tad soon?!?!?!

I heard NY was a strong contender.

Sure was nice this year to have Maxus in my own backyard instead of driving to TX like last yr.

Salt flat would be cool. I'll drive 1000 miles to get a chance to throw a roostertail that big!! HA

I know a dealer in NJ that would probably like to host the event. He's right on rte.22 which is a fairly major east/west highway, should show on any NJ map. Huge parking lot, showroom, and service center. Some hotels/motels nearby. Autogear about 5-10min away. Any interest in this?

almost any road course can be rented by the day.. prices usually start at about $1000/day before insurance, workers, etc.
after all that mess is taken care of, it's about $3000/day that includes emergency service (ambulance on site- required for any high speed stuff), course workers, flagmen, etc etc etc.

Road atlanta was discussed for this year's Maxus, but didn't work out because noone showed interest.
Assume you have 150 cars come, costs will still be well over $100 just for the track, let alone all the other goodies that are required to make an event like this happen.

You can also rent Hallet speedway here in town for a day for aboiut $2-3000. I forget total prices, but it is available, and is comparable to a course like road atlanta. this track has been a fav for SCCA racers for years. 2.6 miles long, nice sweeping turns, a few hills, etc etc etc.

I'd love to do an event at ANY place like that, but you also have to consider the costs of renting the track and liability factors involved.. what if some moron decides to top out his car and bail off the side of the track at 130mph and kills himself. I don't think we'd have anyone stupid enough to do it, but it's been known to happen that idiots and immaturity WILL surface at events like these (remember the smoking tires and races in the parking lot at the last DC/NY/whatever meet up there?!)

oh well.. there's my $0.02. back to class.
