Re: Question for those with the import kit

I have a question for those with the NOS import kit. I was wondering what the kit comes with in terms of engine management. In other words, does the kit come w/ a piggyback or controller of some sort that will increase fuel and retard timing when you turn the NOS on. If not, what do you use to get extra fuel into the engine, and change the timing?

Thanks
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Timing Retard: Nothing you can do if you own 97+ Maxima. The MSD does not even make any aftermarket controller for the Maxima and cannot modify the current controller to work on the Max. They said that the Maxima has some computerised, coil thingy which will fry with their controller.
Solution: Stay below 70 shot and stock timing should be okay.

Fuel Increase: NOS Import Kits use the stock fuel pump to give the extra fuel needed. It comes with a bypass jet in a pressure TEE (part#17538). One end attaches to stock fuel pressure regulator and other to Nitrous pressure regulator. Nitrous pressure which comes from the NOS bottle, increases the Fuel pressure through this "T" setting get more fuel into your system. NOS tech line said that the stock fuel pump should handle upto 70 shot. Anything more than that, one will need a fuel pump and a optional fuel pressure regulator.

I have not installed NOS myself but have read the instruction manual 50 times, so take it for what its worth.

Holy Moly! Awesome thread! I have a few questions I didn't quite get about Nitrous Oxide on my 97 Auto Max -

I am definately going with a 50 shot kit, no more.

1: Should I get a window switch if I have an auto?
2: What is the name of the switch that turns the NOS on/off called?
3: Does top speed increase? Can it do damage to maintain top speed with NOS?

Sorry if I'm being repetitve with questions.....

Thanks..

1: You do not *need* a window switch, however, it would help. You do NOT want to spray at low rpm's. Your transmission will shift before redline with ot without window switch.
2: It is called a "WOT Switch". WOT=Wide Open Throttle. It ONLY sprays NOS when you floor it.
3: NO. You will run very hot and won't do you any good with top speed. Top speed is controlled by your ECU.

Re: No No No

Technically, that's not true. Your top speed will increase. On maximas with a limiter, no it won't increase. But on SE's, GXE's w/ S&C package, etc, then the top speed will increase. More power, higher speed. But you really shouldn't be using nitrous for a top speed run. Not really good to spray for that long.

instead of remote bottle opener

http://www.turbomx5.com/images/Tvalve.jpg

Thanks for the links posted!

I think the T valve for your nitrous line is a great alternative to an expensive remote bottle opener.

I bet the price of some extra braided line and the T valve is alot cheaper than the bottle opener, and sounds safer. The only catch is that you have to run your nitrous line IN the car.

Great thread!

If you have a nitrous gauge you need to run it to the car anyway.

As for the Braided line idea, you would still need to open the bottle when you decide you want to use it, plus when you are done you would be leaving almost twice as much nitrous in the lines.

Is it bad to leave nitrous in the lines?

I was thinking to leave the bottle open and just use the valve. (unless the car was going to sit for a while)

ya use that as your valve and just tap it into the main line, wouldn't require mcuh extra, but if that's like 15 and the line is 40 and a remote opener can be found for like 120ish i think, then it's a decent savings.

Alright, I have done my homework but still need some help.

I have looked around and have come up w/ these figures:

ITEM / WHERE TO GET IT / PRICE (help me fill in the blanks)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Nitrous (NOS) kit # 5124 / summitsportcompacts.com ($499)
comes w/ purge valve
comes w/ Fuel Pressure Safety Switch (FPSS)

fuel pressure gauge w/ electronic
sender /nitrousexpress.com ($37)

Nitrous Pressure Gauge / nitrousexpress.com ($33)

fuel pump / forcedperformance.com ($135.99)

bottle hearter / Advanced Auto (36.99)

window switch ("RPM pills") /MSD and pills (??????)

T-valve (same as remote bottle opener) / ???? (?????)

toggle switch from gone in 60 seconds / Advanced Auto (21.99)

rich/ Lean indicator / Advanced Auto (62.99)

Colder Spark Plugs (NGK pt #: BKR6EIX) (?????)

What do you guys think? I would like a 50 shot for now but would like to bump up to a 100 shot after a few months of experience driving w/ it. What else do i need? Can i eliminate some of these from the list, am i missing anything? Do i need extra lines? And im still trying to figure out the deal with the T-Valve and window switch is...

Thanks guys
