Dangit!!
So my dad and I drive to Charlies (the local Nissan dealer) to take a look at the 2002 alties. I park and everyone inside is starring at my car. Whatever. So we walk over to a 2.5l and a guy comes out and says "This is the one you want over here, the 3.5 SE". We walk over. Nice looking car. Then the guy starts talking. "Yeah whats up with that car over there, with those mustang rims?" He points at my car, and i know he saw me getting out of it.
Me: What?
Him: Those mustang rims your car there
Me: Um, no they really arent
dad: Thats one of the nicest looking maxima's in Maine.
him: yeah, well nice type-r V-spec badge
me: thats a gtr badge. G-T-R
Him: Well its a bad idea to put other rims on any nissan car. It wears out the break pads after 10,000 miles because the stock rims have a special venting system.
Me: Never heard of that before
Him: yep.

I was kinda ****ed, so we left. The alty is pretty cool though, except the yellow gauges ??? Anyway, some people are just dumb. Why would you insult someones car like that, especially a customer? I've had a few other Charlies people complment my car. Arg, really ticked me off. Id like to see what he was driving...

I went to my local dealership one day to go to the parts department. A sales person comes over to me and starts talking to me. Then I ask him about the new 2002 maxima and when he thinks that it will be in. He says he doesn't know but that if I wanted that I could drive the 2001 maxima. Well since i really dont know how to drive a manual i was going to try to learn. THe sales rep told me that that the maximas doesn't come in manuals. eh...!!??!! After that I just left...

Actually

The 300ZX wheels were designed to vent air while in motion to cool the brakes. Then again, I think just about every wheel will do that. The Nissan Tech that worked on my car loved my GS400 wheels. He thought they looked better than any wheel they had on the lot, plus they cool the rotors a lot better. I guess some Nissan guys are punks and others can be quite likeable.

I had one Nissan salesman tell me the charcoal leather didn't come in the '98 Altimas, only the tan. Nice sales pitch. I didn't say another word and just walked away.

hehe....mustang rims...
well, they do have that deep, studded, sturdy/heavy/thick/I've-got-more-than-enough-torque-from-my-american-muscle-car-to-move-big-thick-musclecarish-wheels look to them...

Why can't dealerships just understand that to me, all they are is a go-between, a person in an equation that they just help formulate but aren't a direct part of? Just let me test-drive the damned car and give me some numbers.

The only guys that I might give the time of day to are the techs, so usually know what their talking about. Most of the service guys like to tell me about someone they know who has this , and that , bla bla bla......Some of the guys at bob sharp in CT used to be on the bob sharp race team...so they know something about performance.

That's funny cause once my buddy and i went to a Lex dealership and they wouldn't even approach us, but at a BMW dealership they were extremely friendly.

Go figure.

the "special venting sytem" is called "holes" - I would have asked him to explain how t he nissan brakes last on a GXE with base rims.

It's hard to say that ALL of one type of dealership will be the same. Maybe the BMW guys just had a great lunch or something, you know?

I think I'd wana be a BMW dealer
me- "aaahhhh yes would you like to have a ride in the new M5?"

customer- "ehhh urrr ahhh SURE!!!"

me- "Lets go, I drive to ehhhh introduce you to the urrr mechanicals"

(after the test drive the customer stumbles out of the car and goes on his way)

(5 minutes later, another customer arrives)

me- "aaahhhh yes would you like to have a ride in the new M3?"

customer- "ehhh urrr ahhh SURE!!!"

me- "Lets go, I drive to ehhhh introduce you to the urrr mechanicals"

(after the test drive the customer stumbles out of the car and goes on his way)

I swear, I'd be the happiest guy on earth
