Ummm, call me crazy, but why not use a Nissan filter on your NISSAN Maxima?

The Nissan filter is very well built, but so are Toyota filters. Jeff92SE uses Toyota filters on his 3rd gen VE. Personally, I have no problem using Nissan OEM filters. They seem to hold up pretty well.

Filter

I used to own a old Celica, and the original toy filters element is stacked in multi-laiered in place of a star motif. Have a look in the parts dep. at the dealer, you will understand( or get a used one and cut it open).

The filters with the best reputation for surface area AND filtering capability are:

Baldwin (a.k.a. Amsoil)
Toyota
Mobil 1

Tests have generally backed this claim up. The nice thing about Toyotas is they are on the order of $5 while the other two are on the order of $10.

Jeff92se has promised on many occasions to have his contact give us a Toyota filter cross reference for the VQ engine but hasn't posted that info yet.

Amsoil, K&N etc

I have heard that Amsoil makes good filter. If it traps more particles, would that not mean more restriction, less flow, less hp?
I have been using K&N but people keep saying too much stuff goes thru, and hp gain is no significant.

Yeah you can use Toyota filter in a Nissan, and you can feed your cat dog food. Cat do eat dog food but prefers cat food. Nissan might handle Toyota filters but prefers OEM

:spock voice: engines are not people. they do not "prefer" anything. they are mechanical devices that react to the parts on them.

The Toyota oil filters are made by Denso and are by far the best filter made period. If you find out a part number that will work on a Maxima I would do it. If not, the best aftermarket filter is Hastings which has proven this many times over.

Jeff,

I can vouch for Denso and Hastings. Hastings is closely affilited with Baldwin/Amsoil, and both of these brands have good word of mouth recommendations.......moreso from the "old school" guys than any internet site I've come across......

Based on my research, my next fuel filter will be a Hastings brand instead of Nissan OEM......

Isn't one of those companies(hastings or baldwin) do the nascar oil filters? I was watching tnn one time for that(yee-haw!)lol.

Okay, I will accept that. BTW. my last fuel filter was from Napa. Seems okay for me. ??

I *think* Wix OEMs most of NAPA's parts, cut I can't be sure. Probably no better/no worse than Nissan's OEM (who I can't recall right now....)

I believe Nippon Denso may make Honda filters. All this stuff is private labeled. It is possible that ND makes for all three Jap Mfg.

They are no longer Nippondenso they changed the name to just Denso. Currently they are only OEM for Toyota.
