Its not for my max. Its for my parent's MB E420 Sport. The sport wheels are lipless 17 AMG wheels. There is a nail in one of the tires. They've been driving around on the tires with 5psi of air for like a week now probably. I noticed it last night when I saw the car. The tires are 179 dollars each. So I would like to find a place to patch the tire if there isn't any internal damage from driving around on it for a week with no air. My problem is I don't want any idiots messing with the rim. I need to find a place that knows how to handle rims like these. The wheel will need to be balanced too. That means nice stick on weights. Not those hammer on ones. My stock 97 SE wheels are kinda messed up from bringing it to quacks. They get the job done. But they don't really give a **** about being too careful. Any help would be nice. Please only tell me places that you know will give good results. Thank you.

i think for that car..best bet is head over to the local MB dealer and have them do it. if they mess up u can at least get a new rim or something.

Hmmm Dealer.. Ouch.. hehe. I could imagine that hurting. But I think that would be the safest bet. I wonder if dealers do tire repair. Might be interesting just to see how much they want.. =)

well either do that or take your chances at the cheaper local tire shops. i KNOW those rims are NOT cheap. why cheap out on the MB now?
i know u bought the E420 SPORT for a reason and not because the badges look pretty. also consider getting a new tire..if one would fail you better pray.

I think I'm going with the safe bet. Dealer it is. I didn't even consider that idea till you brought it up. =) I hope they do tire repair. I'll call them up later. Thats two new tires.. Hehe.. Can't get just one. There must be 15k on ever other tire. I guess it wouldn't be too good to have one new one and the other 3 worn. Wouldn't be good for rotation purposes. You're right though. Why cheap out now. I guess personally I'm anti-dealer. For stuff for my max I try to fix it myself without the dealer. But I guess its not a maxima. Good call.. I think dealer it is. Gotta run it by my dad. I don't think he will be too happy with the suggesting considering the last "tuneup" he got at the dealer costed him almost 600 dollars. Haha. For stuff I do on my max for free.. =) I showed me the bill one day. And I looked at the list of stuff. He asked me if I ever did one of those tuneups for my car. I was like sure. I do it myself. Free. Haha.

hey then he should've bought a maxima instead of a MB.
worn tires is not a good idea anyway. i'm anti dealer also..but until a shop will 100% gurantee me that they won't mess up the rims (MB rims for that matter)..i'd stick w/ the dealer.
good luck

I had flat twice on the rear(245/40/ZR17 on 9") of my M roadster, I did try to find a supposely high class wheel/tire dealer with better equipment but I was not able to find one local, so I got it done at Pepboy's. They did scratch the edge but the lip is fine. I don't really care, BMW dealer does NOT fix flat only replace the tire, so if I want to do it that way, it's $289 for the tire(Pilot Sports, Tirerack sells for $257 but I guess dealer has to make some money too) plus $40 for the work. Pepboy did it for $8, so I guess for $320 saved, I can live with some scratch.

Since you said lipless, so I think Pepboy can handle it better. After all the AMG wheels is cheap, 18" Momoblock is only $350 per piece, unless your parents have 3pc AMG's but I doubt it since it doesn't comes stock.

Doh, Woodear is right. The dealer doesn't fix tires. =( I guess they don't want any lawsuits or something. There are no pepboys by me. Closest one I know of is in Ridgewood. But I get the idea. Take it to a bigger place. Its the 17 inch monoblocks. I guess nobody will notice the scratch. I'll think about it more as I get outta work.. Thanks guys

on Northern Blvd. They are across the street from Genovese...not sure what street...in the 170's...it's near Oasis Cafe and the Pearle Vision Centre. If you're coming from Bayside, it'll be on the left.

brake place

Does anyone know a good brake place where I can get my rotors resurfaced at a decent price around the NYC area also?

I think I need to have a few of the tires rebalanced as well, since the freaking place at Firestone screwed everyhting up for a few times now. I still get steering wheel vibrations around 75mphs on...which I never got from the first set of original tires. And btw, the fireston place I went to didn't really give a $hit about my rims either because there are two that has these pretty deep grooved scratch on it probably from the mounting machine...

firestone

well, DanNY--
as for firestone. I bought new tires from them...drove for one week...saw that they scratched the hell out of the front two rims--which got me really upset...cause I tipped the guy (damn--knowing he was going to screw it up, I would have not done so).
While he was taking my front wheels off, he broke off a stud--which was great cause it cost me an extra 32 bucks later to fix it.
then the tires weren't balanced properly.
went back for week 2.
had them fix the stud...but didn't rebalance the tires.

went back for week 3--they somehow killed another one of the studs in the front passenger side--wow!! 2 studs in one shot.
got that fixed, supposedly had the tires rebalanced--but I think from now on, I will stay away from that place--once was all it took from me.
whewww--never really vented about this whole damn incident!!!

So--now, when I need to rebalance those tires--anyone have a good place they go to often in the NYC area?

thanks =)

Re: brake place

We need to find ourselves a trusted shop around here. Someone should make a list or something. A mechanic, a bodyshop, tire/wheel specialist, etc. I have yet to find a place that does alignment or balances tires to my satisfaction. And it really is pointless bringing it back to have them fix it. Cuz they just mess it up again. Like when I got my allignment done at R&S Straus. It was off again in 3 days. I brought it back.. It was okay for a while. Ended up needing an alignment again in 3 months. Geez. Its not like I steer at the potholes either. Gotta find a place that understands we are performance oriented. And we will push the car. And we will find out if they do a crappy job. Geez.. So hard to find good help.

If you go to the Tire Rack site, and look under Installation, you can get a list of tire places in your area that should, in theory, be able to do a proper job.

ZUM!!

Where do you live by the way? I live in Queens--and for now, I have not been able to find any place that is worthy/careful/not over priced and provides reliable service. Is it me or what? I went to two of the places a few years back provided by tirerack--and aside from the stupid $20 per tire charge they put forth for mounting balancing and additional etcs for disposing and this and that--which came out to about $30 per tire to mount and balance, their work SUCKED!! It wasn't worth it to go back to this one place three times so I looked it up another place on tirerack--and they screwed it up too!!
That was a few years back when I had an Acura legend and when tirerack was new and they started to "e-commerce" perhaps things have changed.
If you read my story about my firestone incident last month where they scratched the daylights out of my rims and broke two wheel studs on the same wheel in two different weeks--then you know they are not that good!!
Well, Zum, if you know of a place let me know.

I saw a place in Flushing--one of the 5th generation board member works there and they seem to know what they are doing at a decent price--his name is "its-Okay" and I posted something for him and hopefully he will get back to me.

*sigh* I am pissed off that I can't find a decent place to give them business!!!

Re: ZUM!!

Wow, 30 a tire? I live in Queens yes. Okay, if they are going to mess it up.. Better off get it messed up for cheap!
=P For tire repairs and balancing, I goto a place called J&B Tire. Its on College Point BLVD. I forget what ave. But its in the 40s. Right by the LIRR overpass. 10 dollars to balance. I think 15 or 20 to repair tire and balance. Cheap. BUT! Here is the catch. Don't let them jack up your car!!!! They dented the bottom of my car with their hydrolic floor jack. They don't know where the jack points are and they put the jack anywhere. I never paid much attention to where they were putting the jack. I figured they knew that they were talking about. Then one day I noticed the back passenger floor was dented UP! But almost 4 months had passed since I got the tire work done so I couldn't argue. I still take my tire work there. They still kinda scratch my rims. But, they do a very good patch job. Their balancing is okay. But.. I dismount my tires and drive them over in another car. I no longer let them jack my car up. So if you need a tire patched. That is a good place. I can't let them dismount the tire on the Benz rim though. I'm sure they will mess it up. Especially since it has no lip.

consensus here with queens people?

Alright guys-- Zum, Dan--
so I see we have some half decent place--sort of like okay--you go here, do good work, but this could happen. darn it.
you know I am still so freaking pissed off at the firestone morons who screwed up my rims.

I feel like I need to shoot them or something...>
I need to or will need to get these tires rebalanced. I took them to have it rebalanced and they didn't start from scratch. rather they just tacked on more weight clips on it. You know this forum is quite educational--and now I know they could have taken it off and clip a heavier piece of weight on, but NOOOO--their ****s had to just add more weigh clips and now my rims look retarded.

You know--perhaps now it is not the time for bad firestone jokes since I have 4 of these babies under me every time I drive, but it really isn't a wonder to see why their tires will blow out with just the folks working there. *ugh*

enough venting. So where have you guys taken your car for repair(s) and maintenance items? dealer or any good place around there? I need to have my brakes looked at---and I don't feel like having the dealer rip me off.

thanks guys--

Brian =)
