I'm about to get a paging alarm, cuz I think an alarm is pretty worthless unless you know whats going on with your car.

Most of the pager systems work only within a certain distance I believe.

Got the same. The proximity sensor is sweet. Just wish they would install remote start on my car. But I got everything else for the alarm

Yeah up to like 2500 feet. It's still great for work, shopping, movies, etc...

I agree that the pager systems are a good idea but what are you going to do if it goes off during the middle of a movie? Run out to a false alarm or run out and single-handedly catch a thief? I think they are sort of a bad investment.

Thats why they tell what zone has been violated, whether it is a prewarn, or a full blast alarm. So you don't run out for a little bump, but if your car was hit hard, or the door opened. It gives you a piece of mind.

Ya I know that but what if some old guy has swung his caddy door open to hard and really tagged your car. That would set it off and still be a false alarm. I just think it would be more of a nuisance than anything else.

So what you're saying is, you would rather come out 2 hours later and find a big dent in your door, or come out 5 secs later, and make the guy pay for it.(in both meanings of the term )

First off it'll take you longer than 5 seconds to respond and secondly anyone who's just set your alarm off won't be standing right there waiting for you to come out. Regardless of whether you come out 2 hours later or 5 seconds there will still be a dent.

This argument isn't going anywhere. I think paging is a great feature. If you don't, I respect your oppinion. This just has no use in going any further.

At least we agree on that point. Obviously they made the paging for certain people I just don't happen to be one of them.

u kno wat, installation means the most in an alarm
crap, you could have a clifford 9000 but if the installation
sux, a 50 dollar alarm with great install is waaay safer and better

example: customer comes in with clifford 900, top of
the line at the time... installed by self. whole car stripped, alarm cut, dual starter kill bypassed, siren smashed,
all done within estimated 10 seconds to disable siren
(no backup siren, makes one helluva difference)
no insurance because installed by self so customer is screwed

another customer comes in, attempted break in, python 650esp,
cheapie decent alarm for most consumers. (approx 300 installed) installed by my shop,
alarm brain was mounted behind metal panel under dash, wires
run neatly under dash, out of the way of grabbing hands.
smashed window, a few scratches under the dash where thief tried
to cut alarm wires, no luck, estimated 30 seconds before thief
gave up
$1000 guarantee by DEI plus insurance company pays for any other
damages

which is better?

i really dont think a alarm helps from gettin a car stolen. if a person really wanted to steal your car, he could. the only thing i think that works right now is Onstar and Lojack. everything else... well.. looks good.

install does mean the most in an alarm protection part. But as long as the siren is mounted in plan sight in the engine bay and you can easily cut the wire you got all day to mess with it under the dash

DEI alarm

I was able to get a deal on some DEI alarms that include engine start all the sensors, the truck relase and the remote pager that tells you whether or not you're car alarm is going off with LED display for $400. The window rollup and rolldown feature can be added on for a small additional fee. If any of you guys are interested let me know so I can pass on the savings to you guys.

If you guys think that nothing works to protect your car then its not worth having a car. Make it as hard as possible for thief to steal your car. A S S h o l e s will not break in, but professionals will, or maybe not cause there is allways a car with no alarm to steal around the corner. I want an alarm. I am trieng to decide pager or regular. I was affered viper for $240 instaled and viper with pager for $485 instaled. Good luck.
