Maxima 2002 6spd Differential

I just got off the phone with Nissan Canada and they have confirmed that initial production of the 6spd's, having started in Sept. and ending some time in late Nov., will be of the "Open Differential" type. Basically a standard differential with no Viscous LSD. For Dec. production the SE 6spd will ship with Helical LSD. Open Differential sound like crap, especially with the increase in hp for this year. The info center rep told me to go to Torsen Co. on the web to find out more info about differential setups.

At the dealership I'm being told that the MRSP will go up, but Nissan Canada can not confirm that at this point in time. Is the dealer trying to hose me? Also nissan.ca states that the MRSP is currently $36.9K Cdn and HLSD comes standard on the SE. How can they change the price. Sounds to me like false advertising and they should be more clear on the MRSP number.

Regards,
Rudy

The Canadian spec sheet I have makes no mention of LSD at all? $36.9K CDN is for the SE 6spd fully loaded. I'm going to be at the dealer today and see what this one tells me? I personally would not buy a Max without LSD because of our winters and it is also very nice for cornering in the summer. It sucks to buy a brand new car in the dead of winter! IMO I would wait a few more months until spring arrives if the HLSD versions are going to be released so late.

Have a look at the following link:

http://nissan.ca/eng/cars/maxima/features.html

The features list states the Torsen Diff, otherwise know as Helical LSD, is standard on the 6spd SE.

Cool! The spec sheet I got from the dealer doesn't mention that.

I think the US Spec is part of an option group and not standard...
It's sort of like the SE comfort and convenience package. Nice to have but without it you might as well get a gxe.
