Radar detectors

What's the best radar detector for the money? The Bel 980 is awesome and so is the Escort 8500, but they cost as much as a y-pipe! Does anyone know the different between the Bel 916 and the 870 regarding features or which one is just plain better?

radar detectors are worthless, don't waste the money.. drive 10 over everywhere unless you know where the cops sit.. drive smart, save the 200-300$

I found a Bel 950{I think that's the #} in my I30 the other day when I was cleaning out the trunk. A nice little suprise indeed . I guess the guy who owned my I30 before me just left it tucked behind the CD Changer. BTW it seems to work pretty good, definatly better then my K-90.

I have owned the Passport 8500 for about a year and I love it. I have gotten outta many a ticket from this little devise, I still have been pulled over but I have always been able to slow down enough before the cop can get me for a high speed. I know it was a little spendy but it has more than paid for itself.

I kinda like the idea of going fast when I feel like it. This 10 over stuff just doesn't cut it with me. If it did, I would have bought a Camry or Accord.

Thanks for the replies though. I tried searching through the old posts, but I didn't find the answers I needed regarding the two lower priced models.

Your sig says that you'll list your mods when you get some. From that I could kinda see where you're coming from. Is your Max an auto or 5 speed? In my book, you really need the 5 speed to feel the fun factor in this car. Out of the factory, the full potentail of the Max isn't realized. They've got this great engine, and a suspension that's tuned OK, even the SE. Add just a few mods to an SE, like FSTB, RSB and an intake, and you've got a ride that will compete very well with BMW 3 series and 5 series. That's just about $350 total in basic mods, and you still aren't even approaching the entry level price of a BMW 3 series. The Germans are cashing in on the hype. BMW has the M3 and M5 and Mercedes has the AMG series. But their basic models aren't as spectacular as those ones. They're very good, but not nirvana. Ferrari?? That's kinda way out of the league. I go up against 3 and 5 bimmers all the time. Sometimes I win, somteimes I lose. Even when I lose, the bimmer guy works very very hard for his win So, he knows not to mess and give respect to the Max, or at least my Max. My co-worker bought this Olds Aurora V-8. He raced some guy with a Max and took him. He said he'd take me. I said I think not. The max he went against was an auto with 18s. I've got 17s on mine and 5 speed . . plus ome engine mods. We raced. He was like whoah. took him by about 3 or 4 car to 120 mph, and then he s l o w ly started catching up. His 250 HP starts to play a role there. In the turns?? His car weighs 2 tons. Need I say more? After we raced he told me my max was special. I said not really, I just hooked it up for speed. It's all motor.

My car has a top speed of over 140 mph, loves to corner and accelerate. To me, that's a sporty fast car. And it's relatively in-expensive to boot!

The New version of the Passport 8500 is almost as good as the BEL 980 at about $100 less ... $299 for the Passport @ Best Buy of all places ... $399 MSRP for the BEL.

I'm about to upgrade my 3 year old K40 ... Kickn then .... sucks now.
