3.5SE is WICKED Fast!

I drove a 3.5SE 5speed in Bountiful, UTAH at Jerry Seiner Nissan, and Merging from redwood Rd onto 215 the to I-15 I hit 128mph! The Sales guy was eggin me on! That car is VERY fast, faster feeling to me by far than the used 01 SE 5spd I considered buying. It was funny, when I left the dealer the trip computer said we were 26 miles from empty. My test was about 8 miles long, and about 6 miles into it (shortly after my 128mph blast) it was flashing empty!
I will still buy a used Max, can't afford a new one, or a 3.5SE. I intend to buy an 01 GLE auto in Merlot this weekend.

Effortless, running about 100mph at the merge, thought 110 would be nice, past that in a heartbeat, 120 came quick, thought 125 would be awesome (meanwile I am telling the sales guy- rather sales kid- to look at the speedo the whole time, so he could tell the other gys that he saw for himself!) Anyway, 125 came, went, 128 and I hit the brakes to slow for the merge onto I-15! Ran that merge at over 100mph. Utah peeps will know where I am talking about. No lie.

How do you know you were doing exactly 128mph? Did you top out 4th gear?

It was a 5spd, that speed was attained in 4th gear, did not top it out, it was still accelarating. Didn't hit a limiter, don't know if it has one. The speedo showed a hair short of 130, so it about 128. Maybe there is speedo error, but most of us don't have friend shooting radar to see how fast we are going!

I think 130 (maybe 4th goes faster??) is the top of 4th thats all. I've driven a few myself and they are beasts!

I've hit 120, and left it pegged there, so its possible w/ the new 240hp Pathfinder.

nice!

What is the price of one fully loaded? Did you test drive the Altima too?

Well I know nothing about Pathfinders but I'm willing to bet some money that a stock one cannot do 128mph+ in 4th gear with a 5spd manual tranny. Lets not spam up his thread anymore...

Lets be clear. I drove the ALTIMA, not a pathfinder. Cost, dunno. Wasn't really serious about buying one. The one I drove was bout 25k, no leather, with bose and sunroof.

Unfortunetly, when I went for a test drive, they only had the 2.5 in stick. Its peppy, but much slower then the Max.

Great...hope no one hears buys *that* car. I am sure it wasn't broken in before you hit 128mph? Who cares though...not your car!

I don't know what you're talking about, I can reach 196km/h top speed in my van in the middle of third gear (5200rpm). First gear ends @ 50mph vs maxima around 45, second ends 87 vs maxima around 79, third ends @ 134mph (won't get there)
u think thats not tall gearing? then what is?

gearings for 2000 odyssey are
1. 2.43
2. 1.37
3. .88
4. .58
drive ratio: 3.94

for automatic maximas 4th generation, they're
1. 2.79
2. 1.55
3. 1.00
4. .69

Craig Mack,
You know my pain. If it was ONLY my car, that would be great. Our 99 Accord EX is a 5spd (all 150hp of it), and I hate this particular one. It is junk. It left a bad impression on my wife. I had a 95 GSR 4 door that was a much nicer 5 spd to drive. I will likely get a 95 or 96 se 5 spd (maybe one one with a salvage title for 5 or 6 grand) and make that my modding car.
Can't hurt to have two maxes, one VERY nice one for wife to drive (and me too when I want to look like a baller) and one that I really abuse. The 95 would be faster anyway, all things being equal!
