Well I appreciate the comment, but it's not just light, I would relate it to pushing something over a small hill, a little resistance around the middle of the pedal and then it just goes to the floor. But it seems to be working properly, just not what I'm used to. and I did use an aftermarket kit, Duralast is the name brand, could that have something to do with it?
Thanks

I put a duralast clutch in my 95 maxima a few months ago and it didn't see overly light and it works like a champ. I fact, I wish it was a little lighter.

Did you torque down the pressure plate bolts to spec?

Klatu Verata Nict*cough*cough* maybe not exactly to spec but torqued. I did bleed both slave and master cylinder again today a few time each and it did seem to "tighten" a bit.
My real complaint is when I am taking off I find I'm dumping the clutch or stuttering on take off it's messing up my timing on take off. I'm not racing or anything (210,000 miles) but just general take off.
Thanks

ACT Clutch ruining tranny??

I just bought a 98 SE and the previous owner installed a ACT 6puck clutch and B&M short shifter.. But the tranny whines loudly in between shifts from 1st-2nd when I let off the gas and when the clutch isn't depressed. Is this normal? or is the ACT clutch slowly destroying the tranny. Also I noticed the pedal pressure is significantly heavier than my friends stock 97SE. Any input would be appreciated. I don't mind changing the clutch if that would help lessen the whine.. Also is the B&M a bad thing for the tranny? It's very tight to shift. I don't plan on racing this car too much it's really my daily driver so if anyone has a stock shifter and would like to trade for my B&M let me know.

The ACT has a heavy pedal, that's the way it is. A short shifter is not bad for the tranny at all, in fact it's better because it makes it harder to jam into gears. If you replace the tranny fluid with Redline MT-90 you will get nice shifts. I've had B&M for two years and I love it dearly.

I'm starting to get used to the shifter and pedal feel but what about that whining sound coming from the tranny??? Will the Redline MT-90 help that as well? And does it really matter if I use GL4 or GL5 gear oil? I read somewhere else here on the .org that 4th gen maxima trannies only take GL4. Is the redline MT-90, GL4?

Thanks for the info I'm new to maximas... I used to be a honda guy until I got my 240 and now I wanted something bigger so I just traded for this maxima..

Well it sounds to me like you have the differential bearing problem in your tranny, go back and read this thread from the start if you haven't already. There are probably a bunch of other threads about 4th gen tranny problems too. Any aftermarket clutch is going to be harder on the tranny unless you drive it like a granny.

It's been a while since I researched tranny fluid, but I'm pretty sure you're right, we can't put GL-5 in our trannies, but I know for certain that Redline MT-90 is the best thing you can put in. It is GL-4 but it is far, far better than regular GL-4 gear oil. Its properties are specifically designed to work with synchro manual transmissions. After filling with Redline, you can actually get into first gear while the car is moving. Beforehand that was pretty damn tough. Well worth the money. If you can't find it locally, I bought it online from myoilshop.com
