Re: when ur tranny starts to slip...

i reply and i dont know the exact answer.. BUT, i am almost positive that slipage is the valve body, only because Don's recalibrated VB makes shifting faster and firmer.. mine is still under warranty so i think i am gonna have nissan poke around under there..

what happen to the other answers?? I think Medic was right, its the revers clutches and all that good stuff, I don't think the VB has anything to do with it. my tranny died 3 times and every time it was a bad band, nothing to do with the VB??

1991 GXE(3rd gen)....we were the ones who Nissan decided to give the ****ty POS clutch bands to!

but I'm 99.9% sure its one of the clutch bands like Medic said, I seriously doubt the VB even comes into play when the tranny is about to die!

well so far it's not too bad...the only symptom i've had so far is that it takes foreva for the tranny to catch first gear...when i first put it into drive...

yeah thats a classic symptom....thats what was the first sign of failure before my 2nd rebuild, in a few more days reverse wouldn't work and eventually the trans just died....I'd be careful, and not drive it too far from home cause when these transmissions go, they REALLY go!!!

just for kicks before someone try to get smart and say search....well i did a lil search and found this....

What does a VB, TC, or tranny cooler do?
VB mod = valve body modification. Basically, tunes the valve body in the tranny to allow faster, quicker shifts. Slipping is elminated and tranny will eventually last longer.

Tranny Cooler = A radiator-like cooler for the transmission fluid. You need to get this if you have your VB recalibrated. The VB will make for faster shifts and your tranny fluid will run hotter. Heat is very bad for a transmission. The tranny cooler will keep the fluid at a lower temp. You can get this even without the VB mod.

TC = Torque Converter. Your auto has this already, but a stronger TC will increase your stall speed and transfer more power from engine to drivetrain. You will be able to get better launches and will lose less power than you would with your stock tranny.

Uh, I replied and someone obviously read it because the referenced me, but where did the post go? The Brake band is usually the first to go in our transmissions.
