Nissan sends apology

and creates a collectible:

What bad taste with the Altima cannister in light of the anthrax scares. My buddy literally threw the thing away. Can you imagine the snafu having to send a letter of apology to every one who received it?

I'm keeping my tin, it's a collectible of bad marketing!

I got the letter too. Unfortunetly I gave the tin to my parents so they could use to send a package. Right now I'm just waiting for my Kenneth Cole Bag.

It was an offer from Nissan to test drive the new Altima. There was a choice of free gifts. Either a Kenneth Cole bag or a Kenneth cole watch.

I received the same thing. I hesitated for a while then opened it with a long rod, just wanted to be safe but still wanted to see the contents. If I mark "no such person here" on it and let it go back to Nissan ... Yes I also received a letter of apology.

No apology needed

I would expect a little more from Max.org members.

The canister was obviously from Nissan. The "prescription" label is clearly from the "Cure for the common car" campaign. And why would this big canister contain anthrax--cases so far have been small hand-written letters. Nissan probably should have boldly displayed corporate logo but to say this scare a lot of people really is unbelievable to me. To hear Org members say it scared them REALLY scares me. BTW, only people who have requested Altima info was on the mailing list to get these canisters.

I don't think the canister campaign was suspect for it's mistaken intent as for the obvious cost Nissan spent on it.

I got my apology letter today, it wasn;t needed, but nice on Nissan's part.

What I can't believe is that people who received it really were scared, scared enough to throw it away or open it woth a rod. You needed to be on Nissan's mailing list to receive it, it clearly said "Nissan" on it (EVEN THE LID!). I'd think that Nissan wouldn't be shipping anthrax to people interested in buying their products. It's kinda like Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest being accused of inciting their fans and the people who buy their albums to kill themselves.

It's not bad marketing, just unfortunatly coincidental.

concerning the free gift, i think that the people that requested info on the new alty months ago are getting this canister, from when they just had that silhoette image and something like "its coming" slogan or whatever.

conerning anthrax, from what i've heard from some of my teachers(one chemistry professor) is that anthrax isn't easy to get, just because you get a letter containing the anthrax bacteria, doesn't mean that you have anthrax, it takes a while to get it. i dont really know how to explain it, but i think too many people are over reacting to it. just my take on it, just clean your hands after handling your mail and dont smell your letters.

Of course it was planned for in advance, you're not gonna have $100 watches and bags ready to be shipped in 8 weeks if you don't plan ahead.

It was also good business sense to stop the mailings immediately when things went awry.

What's uncanny is the "child-like" printing on the cannisters which will probably never be used again. Marketing is an interesting concept. Volvo fired their agency of many years when something like this happened. Nissan should look to get a better marketing firm as well. None of the European mfg. have this Lim* Biz***, love the way you slap my a**, X-game mentality, cause after all their target market consists of all grown-ups!

Everyone agrees that you live in la-la-land. Are you the same person that posted the same sh*t on freshalloy? Well that person got thrashed too. Why? Because you have no common sense.

I don't understand the attack on Mr Fontaine, but the marketing world is always trying to sell these crazy images. I say show a picture of the car from multiple angles, different colors, the price, options and performance data. How many people actually think that buying an Xterra will compliment their active lifestyle(whatever that means)? A lot of the automotive advertising is almost insulting.

It is ridiculous that people were scared of it. As a matter of fact, it took me a minute to realize the potential "threat" when I got the letter. People are too paranoid. Although I do appreciate that they did do that, I never would have thought of it if it wern't brought to my attention by them.

I haven't done the drive yet, but I think I'll go for the bag. The watch doesn't look very sporty, so it'd be of no use if you don't wear it. The bag seems as if it'd be useful.

Don't even. The bag may be full of "the stuff." And then Nissan will have to send you a letter to apologize for sending the bag. Fool you once, shame on them... fool you twice, shame on you...
