interestingly enough, I didn't get an answer. so before we stray to far off subject. can anyone give me a definitive answer for if the vb mod works for my automagic SE 92?

Thanks to Jeff for the conjecture, but I don't want to pay that much for something I can't use

With my reply I thought you would have figured it out, my bad. Yes Don's VB will fit your car. 92-94 SE has the RE4FO4 tranny just like all 4th 5th 6th 7th gens. Our trans code is RE4FO4V while the others are RE4FO4A. The V stands for LSD, lucky us.

There is no logical reason as to why it will slow down your 1/4 mile time. Maybe when they ran with it installed they had more gas? More weight in the vehicle? Bad track/conditions? It should make the time faster, it just might have been a bad day to do runs.

heh. Well I actually like my auto tranny the way it is. It's fast and smooth. Having driven an auto with the VB (we won't talk about how slow that one is, apparently), I would rather the smoother shifts.

Synki only gained .1 on his 1/4 and i gained nothing but that was a year ago and synki was still NA. Shortly after that he installed the nitrous on his car and thas when the true benefit of the VB became evident and it showed in his 1/4 time

When i ran slower that one time it was because I had a bad knock sensor and it was retarding timing on top end and it showed cuz my trap speeds were 3-4 mph less then what they should have been .

You understand now ?

Thanks for the comments, its nice to know we've helped the automatic guys keep up (and most cases surpass) the 5spd guys

Synki: I think this is an isolated case, as all others have had a more significant increase in performance. Proof is in the numbers. If you run a .10 faster and all of your runs prior have been a very CONSISTENT number, I would attribute it to a failing tranny, or very worn clutches. Running several times in the same conditions, etc would benefit more, and prove to be more substanciated.

Thanks,

Don

Could the VB mod actually save a tranny that is on the way out. My 98 has over 60k miles and seems to take longer to shift. Although it may be my desire for the car to shift quick and it won't.

It might prolong it. If the clutch discs are worn the VB will not fix them. I'd get the tranny fixed rather than spend the $400+ on a VB. I'd email Don with that one.

Quite a few people heard me chirping 2nd gear at the Woodbury Commons meet, and I have rather heavy rims with sticky rubber on them. I have noticed that the VB did not seem to lower 1/4 mile time noticably, but I feel as though, without a doubt, it has added life to the transmission. For that, I am willing to spend the money (BTW, I DO NOT have Don's but rather, a Level 10, but apparently, they are equivalent.)
