Things that piss you off about your maxima!
Hmm, I don't hate anything about my Maxima (see signature) ... however...
I've noticed some issues...
1. Aftermarket radio was installed by a b...head... the cut the frackin dash wiring, and they blew out the illumination for the main part of the radio (this is not a Maxima problem - it's a previous owner was a b...head problem)
2. The rear area of my hood vibrates at 70 to 80 MPH... (just noticed this today, as traffic was light enough for my to pay attention to the car itself)
3. My car sits REALLY high (totally stock ... 15" rims) and I can't afford to lower it yet...
hmmm.... oh I bought it with no trunk carpet/mat ... so I need to get a trunk carpet (already found a $15 solution for this (will get on Friday on my way home).
Can't really think of any other 'complaints' at the moment... though I'm sure some will show themselves eventually, it's an old car, stuff breaks, etc, etc,...
I do need a nice pellet gun to take out a few birds that seem to like hitting my white car...

The things I don't like:
1. The infamous 2-3 tranny slip.
2. The tranny acts like a sissy and upshifts at like 6,000 RPM.
3. DBW
4. My driver's side headlight is yellower and dimmer then my passenger side.
5. The HID bulbs required to fix #4 are like $55 each.
6. The cloth seats electrocute you.
The things I like:
1. The VQ35DE.
2. The VQ35DE.
3. The sound the VQ35DE makes.
4. OEM HIDs.
5. The SE suspension.
6. The friken' VQ35DE!
Clearly I bought this car for the engine. Too bad the tranny isn't up to it.

So far there is one problem (out of many) that is kinda pisses me off from time to time. The fuel meter (the one inside the tank) in my max.

Old pic but it still does it after I changed the gauges.
When there is about 1/4 tank of fuel left there is a spot which will trigger the needle to go all the way down. Eventually it will go back up but it becomes so inaccurate after that I can't tell how much fuel it has left. Also, I found out through my brother that the low fuel warning light doesn't go on when there acually is no fuel left in the tank and it got my brother somewhat stranded on the road. So I gotta change it, but I have other higher priority things to fix.

^ maybe theres something wrong with the float in the gas tank
not that bad actually because you shouldnt drive too far below 1/4 of a tank, crap in the tank gets forced through your fuel pump and can wreck it, and driving on a really low tank will cause your fuel pump to run a bit dry

Thats a sad scenario as Nissan is aware & totally ignores blaming TIRES for the shake! My 04 Maxima has gone thru 3 sets of tires been special road force tested , hundreds of dollars in alignments.... rotations, balancing even thru numerous reputable tire companies, they are not accepting responsibility for the "shimmy Shake" problem! my car failed inspection because the shimmy was a "rack & Pinion" shake from day 1 !!! now Nissan says "sorry it's out of warranty!" when i complained from day 1 (on the test drive) do not be "suckered into beleiving any of this is a tire balance problem, alignment etc Nissan relaced a strut on the passenger side to satisfy me Problem was still there! HA they blew it with me- yet i love my car & have too much invested. wait these problems do get BIGGER! look at all the remanufactured Rack & pinion steering for these years (tells ya sumthin") good luck! strength in numbers maybe Nissan needs a lawsuit to resolve this matter when it's their problem not ours!
When I bought my '01 5th gen 5-speed SE in 2001, I was told by the L.A. dealer that only about 5% of the entire production run of Maximas that year were manual transmissions. I believe it. Late in the model year, I had trouble finding the manual I wanted in the whole L.A. area - the biggest car market in the known universe. I suspect that there was even a lower percentage in subsequent years.

yup eric.....I just pulled up into the garage the other night....turned car off and was fiddling around in the garage a bit....then I hear a cracking sound...WTF...i think...walk to the front of the car and the passenger foglight lens is cracked.....changed out the driver side a few years back....I don't know.....maybe just rotten luck too.....
you can get a tape to Aux on Ebay for $3, i had one in my 3rd gen before i got a aftermarket deck, its basically a tape with a cord coming out of it and you can plug in a MP3 player, CD player, whatever

Indeed 4th gen maxima's without the security and convenience package lack
the annoying trunk pop button on the door. Since im a pretty big dude I was hoping there was a way to Combine the trunk opener WITH the gas opener like on maxima's without the security and convenience package.
i hate how i had huge plans for an engine build but will cost me 2k just to get my rear end rockers and wheel well repaired from rust, without paint.
killing my hopes and dreams for the build if i cant fix the damn rust
i went to 4 different body shops in 2 towns today, all said 2k, one guy, a family friend said he wouldnt take money from me because it would be robbing me blind.

if you dont care about it being a pro job its not totally hard to do yourself, mine looks good but the only thing is if you run your hand over where the repairs were done it feels a bit rough which im sure can be taken out, but i dont show it or anything so i dont really care.
cliffs basically of what you need are mouse sander, angle grinder (if you have rust in a tight spot), Bondo, paint, primer, clearcoat, metal tape, fine and coarse sandpaper, and a couple of other things.

turn radius
yeah i can see why that would be upsetting. i got a 4th gen max, and it turns pretty good compared to a lot on the road, but when you're following someone and both of you got to to make a u-turn and they do it, but you gotta make a lil 3 pointer, it's irritating. of course it was a porsche i was following
I just bought mine today, a 2002 SE and I can't find something that **** me off for now. But the cup older is SOOOO big !!! Even the biggest can of redbull is to small for the cup older ! And if we remove it, there's another bigger one under !!!
1 - I bought it from a guy who got it at auction because it was an insurance write-off. It passed inspection and all that, so I didnt care. However...the bumper that was replaced had been repainted (car is pearl, bumper isnt). His body work wasnt great in general. The gaps between the hood and the rest of the car (passangers side) is larger than normal. The guy needs help...or his eyes checked at least!
2 - The MIL is on and so is the emergency brake indicator light (I dont use the e-brake ever)
3 - CD Player doesnt work
4 - No remote keyless entry
5 - A/C may or may not work (it hasnt been hot enough to test due to the fact that the car has climate control)
6 - The aftermarket tint is bubbled in the back window
7 - Some person installed this bizzare toggle switch next to the light dimmer dial...and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT DOES!!!!!!!
This being said....I love Maggie....She's comfy, sporty, stylish and interesting...
One thing that was really bothering me about my newly-aquired Maxima is all the paint imperfections. The car is 14 years old, so thats kind of expected, but there were more than I'd like. Today, I was whining about it (as usual) and my friend told me to use a magic eraser. I tried that and it got all of those little grey scuffs out of my pearl-white paint job. Then my dad said waxing the car would do the same thing...then it hit me. Why don't I use both the wax and the magic eraser...OMG it really worked. I will admit that the scratches are still there, but it made them a lot less visible! Just dont forget to wipe the car down with a cloth after, or you'll have swirl marks. Here's my method
1)Wash car VERY well, or you could scratch the paint with dirt.
2)Let the car dry
3)Work the "Jet Wax" onto the "Magic Eraser" over fine scratches/scrapes or scuffs
4)Wipe the surface with a dry cloth, or you could wash it again
No, Im not trying to sell the products, Im just happy with my work and wanted to help someone out possibly. This is a long process, so prepare to be in for the long haul

Well I have had my Max going on about 2 months now, its a 2002 6spd all I can say is a love this car and wouldnt change anything I like how simple it is and how well put together the engine a tranny are.
I also live in the lakes region of NH, so no stoplights helps

or 5spd swap it
