Will you always own a maxima?

See my sig. Only need to read the top line.
So far, the '01 has been everything that I expected from it, and has been a pretty reliable car to boot, something that the '87 I had two cars before was not. But Nissan (likely under influence from Carlos G et al) has swapped out too much of the "sport" and infused the newer generations with too much of a "middle-aged" character for my taste. So if they're no more likely to return to a heavier dose of 4DSC than I am to mentally age two or three decades when I climb into the driver's seat of a car, I guess the answer is 'NO' to any future Maxima purchase. I'll keep this one going for as long as my wife wants it as her DD, but I cannot justify keeping four or five cars registered/insured/inspected for only two drivers.
As far as the local Nissan stores are concerned, the Altima is still on the short list for possible future purchase. But only barely, only for as long as it is available with the V6/manual tranny combination, and only if the mandated stability control can be shut off or is set to be less intrusive than many are. Same thoughts apply to the offerings over at the Infiniti place.

Funny thing is, mine gets such good gas mileage I have postponed looking for another car. 29.6 MPG in mixed driving with a 3.5 and AT? Shoot, combined EPA on many newer cars with much less power only come close or barely surpass the MPGs I get. It's the biggest reason I keep my Max these days.

Personally, I owe my life to my max lol, maybe not that dramatic, it carried me through for real. Super reliable, Super tough VQ (even through tough ny winters), never ever not start even in sub-zero temps, 30k miles in 5 months and still beasting like I just brought it yesterday, what's sad is that, the max was previously invovled in accidents as well and still will outperform other so-called reliable vehicles. it can't get no better than that. 123,000k....we just getting started. So will I always stay with the maximas.... come on.. isn't it clear, we've all seen it with our own eyes"

Will I what?
My 2001 has been down for several months. Nissan Dealers just want to rip me off! I wanted my idle problem fixed and FOUR shops couldn't fix it. I asked one Nissan Dealer to diagnose it and they told me they couldn't until they put in some absurdly overpriced parts. I put those parts in myself and took it to another Nissan Dealer. They said it was fixed and charged me $107. It was not fixed, and they said it must be the ECU then. I had the ECU repaired by http://www.ecudirect.com and and put it back in. I had it towed back to the dealer to "flash" the ECU, and they then told me it is pulling a primary ignition code and missing on #4. It never did this before. They wanted to sell me 6 coils at $1000.00. I asked if they would guarantee the repair to solve the problem, they said no. I took the car back and now I don't know if they sabotaged it or if ECUDIRECT botched the ECU repair. This car is a creampuff with 97k, somebody please help me figure out what to do next! This is my first reply so I can't start a new thread, I've asked advice here all along.....

hell, i like nissan and all, but i am not planning to stay with maximas forever... i do plan to keep it until it dies (not for a while) or it gets wrecked or something... The only way i would buy a maxima if i find one dirt cheap and with a 6spd... (we all know thats never gonna happen LOL)
Oh and also, i once wanted to buy a 350z as a WW (my favorite nissan) but decided to go with something else

I love my 2000 SE but as for newer generations the 6th gen looks like an Altima and the 7th gen just looks freaky.
If I were rich I'd drive a BMW or a VW since I would easily be able to afford all the maintenance fees that come with fixing those cars. I got a 2000 SE because I used to own a 93 SE and I can fix a lot of things on my own and save hard earned money.

I think I want to keep mine at least until I'm done with college.
It's a great DD I think, and it's fun as well.
After graduation, I'll probably keep driving the 20AE while I pursue my dream of building an R32 GTS-T

I can at least say that I will be around them for many more years. They are just a great amount of car for the money and are intuitive to work on. Even when moving on they make a great DD. Can't see myself getting one newer than an '01 so I guess they probably won't be around forever.

I'm curious about what attracts the newest crop of drivers (I'll guess that as of today . . . not quite 17 years, 4 months?).

I started visiting maxima.org back in '98! I don't post much any more because I'm no longer a bored college student dreaming of mods for my 93 SE. It's funny, at that time I didn't have the money, but I had tons of time. NOW, I have the money, but no friggin' time what-so-ever! Add a wife and 2 kids and your dreams of moding and polishing go out the window!
The wife and I currently own our 4th Maxima - a loaded '08. While it's not the screamer my first was, a '93 SE, it's a helluva nice car. Once my '05 Titan is paid off - next month - I'm considering getting a Versa or Sentra to save money on gas.
After our '08, who knows what we'll get, but I think my Titan will become a 3rd car and I'd really like to get back into a sporty Nissan, like the new '09 Max!

I think I will always have my 95 maxima. Ive owned 2 maximas so far. My first car which was an immaculate 88 2nd gen, loved that car. Had it for 7 years while all of my other friends after highschool went through 2 or 3 cars. I have the 95 now and I will eventually own a 2k for my wife. So that will be my 3rd maxima. What can I say, they are reliable cars, I know how to fix them if anything goes wrong, they are fun to drive and still get looks. People dont believe me when I tell them my car is a 95. I love that.

yes I will. Theres just so much money in it + hundreds of work hours. When I get a newer car,max will become a project again. It will be the car that is kept in garage and drove for summers only. And it will be the car that no one in my neighbourhood dares to race.

thats is sorta wat i want to do..keep themax for regular commuting...go to work, colloge, and go chilling....maybe when i get some money buy something else like a 6th gen for going to church, and trips to san fran or lake tahoe, but i dont plan on keeping my max forever...its nice, but for now

I have a 4th gen and plan to have it as long as possible. I've been looking at a 2003 SE 6mt so may be I'll have another one. The thing is that I don't know if I'll always have one. I like Nissan in general so I could have Nissans but..... may be not always Maxima

After 3 and a half years, I'm starting to get bored with my '98. Given its low cost of operation and general good condition I'll probably keep it for another year and a half. At that point, I may move up to Infiniti or possibly Lexus. I agree that Nissan's/Infiniti's have inferior build quality compared to the competition, but they are a good value overall.

back to the original question, maybe on another maxima
however I have owned a few Datsuns then nissans, 510, 280, 87 max, 96 max, 99 I30t, 2002 Altima, 2002 Pathfinder. I have found the nissans take less maintenance and are more reliable than many other vehicles I have owned.

I saw a new/stock Infiniti G37 dynoed today. 293whp@6400 rpm, 258wtq@4800 rpm...and look at what Automobile magazine said...

So after college, I may look into one of those. I'm just getting started in the Maxima community, I like it so far, I like driving my Maxima, and will be adding some bolt-ons, so we'll see what the future holds for us.
EDIT: I'm retarded: I posted in the same thread twice.
The G37's engine, however, blows that performance away. It's rated 37 horsepower higher, but the G37 we tested put 51 more horses to the rear wheels...

I love my Max, but the only way I would ever buy another one is if Nissan releases an AWD version. Winter on the Canadian Prairies is pretty harsh, AWD makes life so much easier.
To stay in the Nissan family, I would have to move to the Infiniti G35 AWD sedan, but I much prefer the Maxima's looks.
