you can tell with a couple more mods 1st gear will become usless at WOT.

you religiously check and ADD oil every 1K miles, but the torque is so nice you don't mind.

Yup, 190 HP in a ±3000 lb 5MT Maxima with a fat torque curve feels (and is) quicker than 240 HP in a ±3300 lb 5AT Accord with most of its power way up in the tach (ie 5000 rpm torque peak!).

Just goes to show that HP isn't the end-all. No one believes that my Max "only" has 190 HP!

5MT 4th gen (based on 190 hp and what it says under your user name) ought to be within a car or two of a V6 Accord but if you had an automatic, no way. Driven my Dad's '04 V6 Accord and my 5.5 gen (4AT) is only a bit quicker despite weighing 120 pounds less and having more hp and torque). Mine has way more bottom end but the top end charge his has plus the extra gear keeps his car reasonably close. His car gets much better freeway mileage too but I'd still rather have mine. Seriously Honda, get with the program. Still no factory HIDs in the Accord? What is wrong with you? /rant

GM replacement engines have been coming out of Mexico since the early 80s. Ran one in my Chevelle. 8:2:1 compression, 4 bolt mains, mild cam. Put in a bigger cam, better heads (made the compression 9.5:1) and the usual bolt-ons. Ran brackets with it running a best on 2.56 gears (that is like us starting in 2nd gear) of 14.68 @ 100 mph and 14.32 @ 98 on 3.08s. I traded it (block and heads) for a stouter short block (more cam, 11:1 pistons) when the engine had 96,000 miles on it. When the person I traded it to tore it down, all it needed was a clean-up hone. Held up to twice monthly brackets for a year and a half, plus I drove that car everywhere during that time. Not sure how Mexican quality is now but back then it was pretty damn good.

Just thought I'd throw that out.

Great story. LOL

As for the quality of the VQ engine, i think it went down with the 5.5 and 6th GEN even that is way more fun to drive the VQ35 over the VQ30 That's my own opinion!

Hecho(a)= Made

Ensamblado(a)= Assembled

Armado(a) = Put together/ another form of assembled

You know you are driving a VQ when my son (who drives an '07 Corolla) says "no wonder you only get 19 mpg city when you leave lights that quickly" and I was at maybe 1/3rd throttle.

But yeah, I'd love to get the 38 mpg freeway he gets but only if I had the same power as my engine has now.

i threw up of laughter looking at this, especially the part when you said "You know you drive a VE when the guy at the parts counter tells you your engine doesn't exist "

You know youre driving a VQ when you command, and it obeys.

You know you are driving a VQ stuffed into a 5.5 gen when your Dad drives your car and says "your car has a lot of torque but that turning radius is awful!"

When you have full exhaust and you punch it under every bridge/overpass.

When your 1st gear is useless N/A from a stop or a roll.

When you punch it and it surprises YOU with how quick it is.

When you're dead tired after work or early in the morning but you start your car up and you're awake.

When you don't mind the crappy Nissan paint chips on your front bumper cuz it's not like anyone can see them while you're moving.

When you take more pictures of your car randomly than you do your girlfriend.

When you drool over it in your driveway.

And even when you have a nice sound system, you turn it down because...you have a VQ.
